who here has crashed riding thier motorcycle?

I have crashed a road bike once, not my current one though. I was wearing leather, so I made it out with a few bruises and a new parts bike.

And my dirtbike more times than I can even count. But that's to be expected with a dirt bike.

People survive crashes all the time. Watch a WSB race or two. People going 150 down the straight when the rear wheel starts fishtailing thus propelling the rider off. After they are done sliding, they usually pop back up and go running to their bike to see if it will still work. Most the racing accidents happen in the corners though, so there is a lot less speed and they don't generally high-side too much.

Now, in the real world, motorcylcists fare a lot worse. Primarily due to inadequate protection and secondary collisions with cars, trees, fences, light poles, buses, bridges, kwik-e marts etc.

Just don't be an ass and most likely you'll make it to you 40th birthday.

And maintain the mindset that nobody sees you.

If i was asked to give one tip on bike riding, this would be it.

I have crashed my street bike 3 times. Each time it was in a turn. The first 2 dumps happened mid turn in a tight lean (scraping pegs) and i had the rear wheel spin out and BAM i lost the bike from under my ass in a second. Nothing bad happened to me, Thank God some minor scrapes, no bruises and some rash on the bike fairings. The cause was a mechanical failure, meaning the rear tire had greasy edges from my dumb ass getting silicone on it.

The third time was with my current CBR1100xx. same scenario, i got into a turn, started to lean it very low to the ground and suddenly panicked, thinking the bike will slide out (which it won't) and straightened it out only to glance a gurd rail. THAT one sucked. It was my new bike. Anyway thank God i did not get hurt again. Keep in mind that these were fairly low speed crashes.

Since then i have kept the equipment top notch (very important) with excellent rubber front and back. also i worked on my fear of lean angles and practiced proper head positioning in turns and have not had any poblems since. I scrape pegs whenever i want and the bike is solid as a rock and safe, believe it or not.

But the most important safety change on me was the dumping of the super ego.

Crashed on the street quite a few times and more times than I can count on the track. I'm a hooligan and it's the price you pay to learn...

I agree this is awesome advice. I also imagine every time I see a car they are going to do the dumbest thing possible and then adjust my position and escape route accordingly. Also get the loudest pipes you can with the brightest paint job both help with morons in automobiles.

I have wrecking two times on the street. Both just scratches. I have wrecked many times on dirt. But I think the dirt riding is the best form of training for street.
