I have a question...if you have AT&T as a cell carrier when you view bills online and then go to messaging how far back in the history can you view txt messages sent / received for your online bill? For verizon it is 3 months....then it says no data available.

Is AT & T the same?

I can go back to January 2010 and see that I sent a message to xxx number... I can't see what the message was, but the info if it was inbound or outbound, the number it was to, and how many message were sent at that instance... I've been a customer far longer than January 2010 too, but that's a year and a half of data.

Yeah, you should be able to see who the texts are to and from for a good long while, I dont think you can get the actual messages though.

That is not the answer I was hoping for!

Like bad news? Or like someone didn't answer your Q properly.. Because that is the way it is.. You can go back and view shit that's really old. But to be honest AT&T site was a bit complicated to find stuff. I believe they were updating it tho cause I couldn't log in yesterday..

Y would they save EVERY single persons phone records for any longer than a year?! Expecting them to keep logs of all this stuff for that long is insanely not realistic. Do you know how many calls and texts each person on that network makes....they wouldnt even have space to save all of this information.

I believe they can retrieve at least one year's worth of actual text messages when operating under a court order..

But the message locations (and calls) are definitely stored and easily retrieved for months. If you get a court order or subpoena to produce them, you'll be in contempt if you don't (or if you mess them up).

Bro content cannot be retrieved...they do not store information on servers. It can only happen with people who do not delete info off of their phone or possible for 72 hours after a text is sent...
