when someone dies howcome everyone else seems to forget any of the dead persons faults, errors, mistakes, etc...?

example: Reggie White and the comments he made in the 90's about people from different regions of the world...

example: an ex of mine's mom was a drunk.. this girl would say how disgusted she was with her mom and how she was a drunk, etc... then the lady passed and all the sudden became "mama" and was such a great person.

why do people do this? is it because we dont want to be remembered poorly? or as a bad person?

Its poor form to speak ill of the dead.

Personally, I'm with you. If you hate me, then hate me whether I'm living or dead. Don't be my friend at my funeral. Tell the world what a jackass I was and I'll do the same.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to piss off someone who can haunt me for the rest of MY life.

Well, if they haunt you, you can always come back with...

"Wow spirit, eternal bliss, and you decide to skip out to haunt me? I'm flattered."

And if that doesn't work, then here's one that I'm planning to use...

"DirtyD made me do it! PUULLEEASEEEE! Go get her! And before you kill her, get some pics to post up."

I've got it covered.

You just answered your own question. I think you already knew.

Yup, reminds me of a girl I once knew. She called her dad a loser because he stopped buying her a new car every year. Then the poor fellow dropped dead, probably to get away from her and her mother, and she acted really tore up about it. I never heard her say anything good about the man while he was alive, so maybe she finally got a conscience.

when I was in like 5th grade a kid a year younger than me at my school died, got hit by a car on his bike. everyone went to the funeral (church was attached to the school) and spent the day mourning and whatnot. But I could not possibly wrap my mind around what was happening. When the kid was alive he was the BIGGEST prick EVER. even the nuns hated him. he was just the worst. I felt bad for him and his family, but refused to cry and mourn and saw everyone around me as just fake sad people. I guess that's where it all began for me.

Same situation around here.

When I was in HS, there was this kid who od'ed at a Dead concert. The papers and his friends made it out that he was a saint. A friend of mine got in a little trouble at school for sayign that he's glad hes dead because he sold weed to jr HS. I was thinking, WTF? The guy deserved to die...what the big deal? Why lie about it? He sold drugs to little kids! What do you want me to do? Sing praises about him? Sheesh.

I dont think the things reggie white said were said with ill will. He said things like "hispanics are good at family structure" "blacks are musically inclined" "asians are good at science/math" "whites are good at business" etc. Sort of harmless stereotypes but the man did a lot of contribution to needy people and continued to do so at the time of his death, so give him a break.
