Howdy,

Ive been bulking for a while, and im thinking about going on a ckd to get some of the fat off.

What is everyone's experiences with ckd's. How many people have got keto breath, does it smell that bad?

keto breath - it tastes pretty bad, but not so much to other people
ammonia-like body odor - this was minor
lethargy - I operate better on carbs, and I was deep in ketosis, too. I didn't adapt to ketosis and somehow start feeling euphoric. I was a computer programmer and a student of computer science taking 18 credits, so it was especially hard.
carb-up - I did it too long, and ended up not meeting my goals. I should have done 24 hour carb-ups.

I think it is worth it. If I do it again, I will integrate it into a larger diet plan, perhaps doing an isocaloric diet before and after the CKD. I also think that a thermogenic is very helpful on this diet. It helps you to forget your body's yearning for carbs and have better workouts. If your main goal is weight-loss, try doing a depletion workout very early in the morning. Carb up the rest of the day. This will give you time to burn fat the night before, and will clear the fat out of your system for the carb-up.

You may gain weight the first week due to glycogen supercompensation. I read this, it happened to me, and to a friend that tried the diet. I follewed the plan in BodyOpus, except that I later switched to a Saturday morning depletion workout.

Also, when I did it, my ketostix were very dark.

Try zero carbs (as close as humanly/humanely possible) the first day, then eat some fiber after you hit ketosis really hard. I didn't eat any fiber the first week, and I didn't shit all week, either.

I overdid vanadyl sulfate once, and I almost passed out at work. I had some candy next to me just in case.

My depletion workouts were exercises in self-abuse. During one, I did a record 1080 repetitions. I was circuit training non-stop with very little rest for over two hours.

Something I noticed was that my metabolism dropped more extremely and quickly than ever before. I think the lack of carbs did this. This is a real flaw, and I don't think CKD's are the best diets. They are simply an alternative, and something you should at least try once as an alternate strategy and to see if it works for you.

Lost around 10 pounds of fat in 4 weeks.

Was 206 now 194...have not lost any strength.

Some like it..some hate it, BUT you won't know till you try.

I think I'll do it for another week or two and switch back to moderate carbs high protein diet.

Oh yeah if you do decide to try it

The key is to eat enough fat. Some people feel like zombies because they overdo it and don't eat enough fat.

I have felt great while on it.

Good Luck

Thanks guys, i have never tried a ckd, but it sounds like it could be promising. I believe i can do it though.

I adapted to keto pretty well, but the carb loading killed me! I got REAL lethargic. Too much of a shock for my body I guess. I feel more balanced on a low carb (but not keto) diet with lots of veges.

D00fy-- I still have a meal every 3 hours......but this time it includes a serving of oatmeal or brown rice. I don't worry about caloric intake, since it is a refeed....so I'm intentionally eating more calories than during the week. Also, my macronutrient ratio changes to 45/45/10 (protein/carbs/fats).

Hope this helps....
