what's your bp??

What is your bp while on?

I just did mine today (although it was at a shitty pharmacy with a small arm hole), and it was 165/56.

The dude at the counter said that the first number was high because I came in from the car and went right to the machine without resting for a few minutes.

What do these numbers mean, what is considered high bp, and how do you lower them when they are high?

This morning 140/80

I wouldn't even be able to get my forearm past the cuff in those pharmacy testers. I think they're made for women, children and skinny people.

usually around 120/80.

A "normal" blood pressure is something like 120/80.
Any blood pressure reading that consistently stays at 140/90 or higher is considered high blood pressure.

Your systolic pressure (pressure exerted when the heart contracts) is a little high like the clerk said, but the diastolic pressure is pretty low.

I would recommend taking your blood pressure a few more times to get an average reading, because everyone's BP will fluctuate during the day. There are many ways to reduce high blood pressure. For more info check out: http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/blood/whatisit.asp

The only bp machine I have ready access to is the one at Wal-Mart, and just to get my forearm in there I practically have to grease it up. When they use the thigh cuff at the doctor's office it's somewhere in the high-normal range. My diastolic is almost always good, but sometimes the systolic jumps up a little bit. I've heard the diastolic is the one you really have to watch. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah...the diastolic is probably the most important one because it is the measurement of the pressure when the heart is at rest (or between beats.) When you have a really high diastolic pressure, it needs to be checked and treated.

mine is consistently around 98/66
great for my health, but I don't have the veiny look that I'd like.
