whats wrong with our country?

Our country is "Babylon".
In the future Starbucks will be the most ghetto ass place to be.
Prostitution will be legalized and sex will be offered on every corner, getting some ass will be as easy as brushing your teeth.
Movements of our total and complete nature will flow within the BEAST system, cameras recording our every activites.
Poverty, famine will be commonplace. Its going downhilll. peace

yes but can babylon be changed? can apathy be combated?

are the cards stacked against us by that much?

is not giving in to the way things are just as bad as feeding the beast that we fear and loath?

where is hope in all of this?

Whats wrong with america

The biggest problem with america is the size of the goverment. The goverment is contantly growning. Almost every president will say "i want a smaller goverment" and then everything eles out of his mouth has somthing to do with making it bigger. This is cause every president want to "leave there mark" on america. Every year that passes there number of goverment jobs grow. And every new goverment employee has to give there kids jobs (grows more), you can see that it is never ending and will eventualy leave the american people poor.

things wrong with our country

the intellictual climate regarding politics, and society is frozen and rigid.....in the universities dialogue and opinion is confined to a select few that must instill in their pupils a set of either conservative or liberal propoganda that serves only to balkanize a new breed of potential intellectualls.

our culture is dead it revolves only around materialism, manupulation, and insincerity. nothing of civic duty, resoponsibility, or integrity exists in popular culture

our common person in this country is about as educated as a door nob..
thanks to the ever so centralized media that essentially controlls the very identity , agenda , and consciuosness of this population...........so to try to reach this mass of people in the hopes of getting something grass roots going is almost impossible. because they do not possess the information or tools to liberate them from there prisons because they have not been furnished with them intellectually, and second even if they were in some degree it would almost be impossible to reach this group on a national level.....

That succinctly sums it up....

We are becoming a society of dumbed-down conformists lving in indentured servitude to the omnipresent ever-expanding state.
Unfortunately, the wheels in this process are massive and are already turning at a rapid rate-throwing a few wrenches into it, won't stop it.
Long-term we are doomed, but I'm still an optimist myself..just happen to be a realist also

Damn, we thought you fell off the earth.:D

What's wrong with this country?

People don't care about others anymore. All that matters is the bottom line. How much money you have and just so you have more than the next guy.:(

hey BIG

I slipped but I have not fallen.....

nice to see some of you guys and gals

I agree with you sentiments as well concerning people.

question.......how did all of this unravel how is that people have become this way.........?

OMEGA said:

There are probably many reasons, but the biggest is.

The loss of community. People used to feel like they belonged to a town or area. Now we don't really have communities, we just have dwellings where we live, a place where we work, etc.. People don't feel like they belong in any one place.

Omega.....I feel you bro. Actually I was posting with Frack about this very thing, though more on the political side. I say political because I believe that is where the major changes are going to have to occur first. If our leaders are corrupt, then what can we really expect to do? They will take their corruptness to their graves, and "train" whoever replaces them to continue.

Until the American people understand the extent of the corruptness that has been breeding and growing at the top of the leadership, those in power will continue to squash the small minority who are disenchanted with the current way of life.

Second, until we adopt a more responsible attitude towards family life, and all that it entails, it will have to be controlled by someone. I posted a thread about requiring people to be certified to have children....financially, and emotionally responsible people.

Yes it will/does infringe on constitutional rights, etc, but how else are we going to get the broken family/home situation under control? Seeing as how the government is determined to create a chasm between the rich, and the poor, it will only get worse.

People have no more accountability.....for their own actions.

We are a society of quick fix/shortcut methods to accomplish things that take time. Technology has spoiled us.....we've become lazy. Advertisements take advantage of uneducated consumers.....states take advantage of our quickfix mentality

(lottery games)........until we can expose (cut off the head) the problems at the top, the tail will continue to follow aimlessly along.

Sorry so long......anyway, its good to see you back, and I recently came back onboard myself.....been extremely busy.....you doing great? ;)

Apathy and extreme forms of nationalism. Both are interrelated.

Apathy causes a state of individual indifference and complacency. It encourages a person neither to manifest an interest in government action, or participate in social protest to bring about national policy reformation.

Extreme forms of nationalism subvert impartial, critical review of government action. Extreme forms of nationalism basically encourage apathetic civilian participation in government policy formation, because the government 'knows what do to do. Why? Because this is the United States of America!"

Its tautological.

Whats wrong with America, is whats wrong with the world. People are willing to comprimise what little ideals they have for personal gain.

I feel that the government is no longer "of the people, for the people". It's dominated by special interest and big business. People feel powerless..... just look at voting participation.

Also I think our youth is going to shit. The stuff I read about and hear about makes me cringe.... and I was a fucked up kid in high school.

It amuses me that people who campaign against the government -- like Dubya and Reagan before him -- are also the people who invariably try to extend the powers of the state to regulate our lives.

They want to forbid abortion, they want to forbid stem-cell research, they want to abolish client-attorney confidentiality, they want to read your email, they want to regulate people's sex lives, they want to punish entire families in public housing if one kid is found with a joint, they want to re-corral everyone into a box called "family values," they want to relax the separation of church and state, they want to spend zillions of dollars fighting a useless global drug war in the interest of health while they call guaranteed national health care a commie plot. They claim to advocate State's rights...and then they try to block a state's right to define legitimate medical practice.

If you don't agree with them you are (in Ashcroft's words) giving comfort to the enemy.

I totally agree. I've made numerous statements regarding republicans being in favor of smaller government, but I have yet to see that happen. It is a myth.

A good gage to the well being of a country is....how many people are trying to get in. People are beating down the doors to get into this country!!!!! If you have never traveled outside the US you don't understand how fucked up the rest of the world is! Including western europe! Go to India.....you will kiss the fucking ground when you get back home! This country is great....plain and simple!

Someone's been reading the thesaurus on his vacation. Nice points though.

I think the population is becoming too cynical & shallow. I'm also bothered by the fact that any war with anyone will give the president a 90% approval rating. The fact that romantic relationships are so overvalued in this society is a bad thing, i.e, for every 1 song on the radio about someone's love & support from family, god, friends, etc, there are 100 about love for a woman the singer barely knows.

However, it is still a pretty good society. Most countries in the 1st world have liberal (relatively speaking) domestic policies. I hate our foreign policy though, which is why i support the U.N.

some good posts here, but looking at ancient history - there is no problem or societal condition in America today that was not experienced by the Roman Empire. Politicans have always lied and cheated, the population always tends towards apathy and immorality, people have always defrauded and killed their neighbors, governments have always overtaxed and intruded until reversed by revolution.

every empire has gone through the same cycle of founding to expansion to decay to destruction - as long as human nature stays the same, there's no reason to expect any different.

LACK OF COMMON SENSE

The goverment is spending billions on things that dont benifit anyone or anything in anyway.

People are killing eachother over parking spaces

We give to much power to people who dont deserve it (churches, lawyers, goverment, teachers, in other words people w/o common sence).

Teachers are forcing student to lift there skirts in public and people think its ok, becasue god for bid a student wears a thong.

A friend of mine was kicked out of school for wearing a kaki trech coat, the deen who kicked him out weres a black trech coat everyday, Absolutly no common sence.

There are peope in america who can barley afford to eat and our govent wasted billions to send people into space to study how roachs have sex in zero gravity, give me a break.

54% (over 1 million) of people in prision are not guilt of hurting anyone, yet some of there sentences are higher than muderers and rapist.

The goverment is so corrupt they will take bribes from anyone, even if it hurts america.

People who are under attack(genocide), and having there land stolen, are being called terroist, and the america public belives it.

I cant flip through the channels w/o hearing american/jewish propiganda that will eventualy destroy our lives.

Jerry springer

All the lazy, dumbass employers that make working in this country a living hell.

The thousands of worthless laws that make millions of people criminals so cops, judges, correction officers, law makers, ect. have job security.

Rednecks who sit around drinking beer and fighting

Beer.......not enought people smoke pot

The goverment makes billions off of cigeretes, why dont they get sued for the heath coast also?

The internet, being the last free place, is under attack by the goverment. They want to tax it, wich then gives them the right to regulate it.

Our freedoms have been stripped away from us in an attempt to make things more safe, yet people dont relize that criminal dont follow laws. Why punish those that do.

We pay for everything and get nothing.

I hope all the people who are running this country into the ground, wether out of stupidity or greed, suffer an slow painful death. And i can only pray that theres an afterlife so they can burn in hell.

whiners....not because we have them, but
that we're stupid enough to listen to them:(

that ties into all our problems IMHO.

i want the govt to fix this.....
i dont want to pay more taxes though...
why doesnt the government fix this...
can't the government stay out of my life...
blah..blah..blah..
all of which is made better by the media
which perpetrates the above but amplifies
and dumbs it down even more.

This is true. However, whats even more disturbing is were moving into a period where civilian ability to coerce government change is becoming more and more remote.

Biometric identification cards, human microchip implants, consumer product microchip 'tags', all give big government an unprecendented ability to TRACK not only civilian purchases, but also civilian location, perhaps even engage in real time civilian conversation monitoring.

Previously listed technologies are already being perfected, and biometric identification cards and consumer product id microchips will probably be implemented within the decade in the United States.

All technologies represent one possible defense against future terrorist attacks. But at what price?

Information collected by preceeding technologies will be diverted to government processing centers where sophisticated data mining procedures will search for 'suspicous' relationships between consumer purchases, locations visited, cross referenced with criminal records and civilian intelligence dossiers.

The illegitimate uses of this technology may never be discovered by the public. Government departments commissioned with analyizing data collected by product ID microchips have the ability to anonmously tip off federal law enforcement agents or regional law enforcement agents xxx person may be involved in terrorist activity. Thanks to expanded state power to engage in civilian wire tapping, both phone and electronic, said person can be targeted for federal government wiretapping with just the mention of 'national security considerations'.

Those of you who think Im talking outta my ass. The United States Government is already operating a global survillence network this minute - Echelon. Echelon is a massive global communications surviellence system administered by the NSA, which intercepts global civilian and military communication transmissions at major backbone internet and telecommunications reuters.

Isnt it illegal for the US government to spy on its own citizens? Yes it is. But in the 1990's, a raid by regional British law enforcement authorities on a suspected domestic illegitimate foriegn spy office revealed British federal agents were working side by side with hundreds of federal US NSA agents processing data collected by Echelon global surveillence system.

What gives? One tool used by Echelon to intercept global communication data are groundbased microwave receivers which essientially catch 'run off' microwave communication signals downloaded from orbiting communications sattilites. What this means is that the United States Government, in order to broaden Echelons surviellence capabilities, has negoitaited intelligence sharing contracts with countries who authorize construction and operation of massive domestic microwave attena receivers for the purpose of clandestine communication collection.

So what were the NSA agents doing in Britan??

Its not illegal for governments to spy on foreign citizens. NSA agents were in Britan to aid British intelligence agents in the collection, processing, and analyzing of intercepted civilian communication data orginating in the UNited States, to be forwarded to domestic US intelligence agencys for future use.

Echelon is MASSIVE system. Go check out the National Security Administrations homepage - the government agency which 'doesnt exist'.

Requirements for employment?

Only one. BCS. Bachelor of Computer Science.

Prometheus has it nailed. Humans are corrupt by nature. We will always war, we will always steal and hurt and be selfish. It has always been that way and will until we kill ourselves off the planet or somehow figure a way to bring our evils to another planet and destroy that one too. From a grand scale to a personal scale you can see identical traits and flaws. It seems that it is essentialy out of the common man's hands anyhow. Our current government is at the point where there is 0% chance of a revolution as it would be dealt with swiftly and violently. The average citizen's perception of the government is so off that it is mind boggling.

I have a close friend who is an ex-delta force operative and through the years we have discussed various missions he ran for the government- along side the CIA and other facets of the intelligence community. I can tell you this: some of these stories would blow your mind. Some of the things the US is involved in are so contrary to every concept in the contitution that they(high level Intel-they people who really run the country) are frankly working completely in and of their own accord without any governing body. There are so many levels to the corruption that to try to actually change anything seems futile. We are meerly sheep- granted we do have the best thing going on the planet right now but that is what is scarry. I try not to be too cynical but it is hard when you realize the scope of what the human race has become. I have had arguments before about this subject where people will tell me how humans will evolve and be peaceful- do any of your REALLY believe that? The aim is to get the population to be peaceful thereby thwarting any possibility of revolt. 20-30 more years and we will no longer have any guns, that is obviously coming. That just gives more and more power to the police state. Especially with the new "war on terorism" that we have going. People will be more than happy to give up their guns and other rights in order to "stop the terrorist threat". It is unavoidable.

For another example of the good ole US of A and the way we work- look no furthur than the "War on Drugs". Now, any of you who have seen Traffic know that it is complete BS. It is a rediculous concept yet we spend millions on it. If people know that we(The US) actually import drugs into the country(albiet via the intelligence community) then why would we still allow that? Answer: we cant do shit about it. We bring it in, sell it then bust the lower level dealers and ocassionaly bust a large fish to make the public happy.

On a social level it seems that we are sinking lower and lower every day. Is it just me or is everyone an asshole nowadays. Not just kids either- EVERYONE! I travel to differant parts of the country and still I find everyone is on the cell phone talking too loudly, people drive like total pricks and no one has any manners to speak of. How many times have you been out on the town with your lady and some guy just gawks at her? MANNERS!! I swear some times I wish we could go back to the cowboy days- I would be shooting some people that is for sure. Most times I go to a store the clerk has a chip on their shoulder- they are pissed cause they dont make shit and I cant blame them but they take it out on you anyway. It is a shitty situation all around and we all have to just deal with it. People complain about everything and do nothing to make it better. "Oh no terrorism!!", "We have to stop those awful terrorists!!"- well then stop supporting the oil trade by driving a 20 foot SUV that gets 5 miles to the gallon! "Oh...ummm....well I dont want to stop terrorism that bad".

Comfort. That is the ruling concept of today. Dont make me uncomfortable. Anything that changes someones comfort level is unacceptable. I guess that is why the guys who fought in WWII at a young age came home from the war and were so productive- they had been through the worst right off the bat and so anything after that was gravvy. Now, we have kids that are 18 who feel totally cheated if they dont get to be pop stars and be rich & famous. The media shoves it down your throat so much that you feel like a loser if your not making 100k by 25. I see so much pain and suffering in the world that I wonder if there is enough good things to make it worth it. What do you guys think?

In the end all you can do is try to make your own life as productive as possible. I think sometimes this effectively means putting your head in the sand when it comes to larger world and country matters. Help your community if your into that sort of thing. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. If so then this country is one big bliss factory.

Tyler Durden said it best:
"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate, so we can buy shit we don't need." "We don't have a great war in our generation, or a great depression, but we do have a great war of the spirit.  We have a great revolution against the culture.  The great depression is our lives.  We have a spiritual depression."

many of you have pointed out about the prevalant corruptness and obviuos subversion of our rights........but is there any way to fiw even one aspect of our system? I mean how did others do it before? In other countries? I sthere anyone we can turn to for a lesson on how to make our country better? or are we really screwed?

the reason I ask...is because it has nearly become stylish to say

" ah fuck it, government and corporations are corrupt we cant do anything about it"......

so many that care about things and that now better that I run in to buy in to this mentality.......it's like losing before even trying........Is not this mentality feeding the despair that we all suffer from

the affliction we are all in will only be mended through self sacrifice, heart , and truth...............there comes a point that when most men turn there back on injustice that some of us must choose to stand and not look away and face our fate even if it means losing.........

Agreed. Just read a dballer post.

THese tools, however, are easily acquired. Just go and get a couple of books on logic and semantics and thought.

they want to spend zillions of dollars fighting a useless global drug war

I have to disagree here, mb. That war is very useful to law enforcement agencies who can seize property and sell it for profit without charging the individual with a crime. The legal drug peddlers also known as pharmaceutical and beer manufacturers. Drug lords who would lose it all the instant policy was changed. The US military who has found yet another reason to play war games in the jungle in order to "save freedom." (get combat experience for promotions) The thousands of employees at the DEA and other involved agencies whose bailing out the ocean with a bucket secures them a good government job with benefits into perpetuity. The federal "for profit" prison construction and guard system (guards who incidentally make a nice profit funneling drugs into the prisons themselves). The creation of the "enemy within" as a scapegoat for politicians to distract public attention and pin societal ills onto.

You see, it´s very useful to many powerful interests. It depends what you think is useful.

I guess that is why the guys who fought in WWII at a young age came home from the war and were so productive-

Nope. Dead wrong. The US experienced an unthinkable comparative advantage following WWII while the rest of the develped world lay in ruins.

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at: The US soldiers who came home after the war were celebrated for being the victor and were in a time of growth and economic boom. Most of them found good jobs and worked there the rest of their lives. The point being, they went through the hardest part of their lives in their teens and early twenties- after that it was easy. In comparison to now where you have 30 years old boys who wont really be adults until they are 40. See what I mean? Obviously the rest of Europe was in tatters, that is another story.

About the useless drug war- you are picking apart what people are posting and pointing out the obvious- we know that people are corrupt and all have their hands out but from a normal every day honest man standpoint the "drug war" is complete BS. It does nothing but harm. DEA agents risk their lives for what? NOTHING!!! It is a joke. Of course the guards at prisons make money on the side which is "useful" to them but how is every little scumbag with his hand out helping this country from crumbling from the inside? It is those greedy people that are really causing things to get worse.

Mob Rule.

When you get a bunch of uneducated, self interested people to vote for things they don't understand you have problems.
The thing that made this country great (democracy) will be the thing that drags it down.

People voting to not put in mass transit systems because it raises taxes a little bit.
People voting down funding for education because they are stupid
People voting things like teaching creationism in school
People using a system of blind faith and pointless superstition to vote against life saving medical advances. (religious morality with genetics)

Mob rule will bring America down and other countries that do not have these problems will surpass us in medical and technological areas. Not only will this make america a less rich of a country, It will make it a laughing stock of the rest of the world, a backwards 3rd world country.

My feelings on my country anyhow.

Any country where the leader says he feels that Athiests are not a part of said country is a country I don't like living in. (said something similar about pagans also if I remember correctly.)

I thought big bush said that. I don't think lil' bush said it.

George H.W. Bush, as Presidential Nominee for the Republican party; 1987-AUG-27: "No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."

Didn't he run the CIA during the overthrow of East Timor? fuuuun shit. I love your points though, i feel the same way about genetic engineering and a public who can be whipped into a blind patriotic rage over stupid things like a $4 a year tax hike or 'drugs'.

this country has many problems:

immigration
the fact that we spoon feed the Jews in Israel with my tax dollars

the list goes on...

first of all whats the definition of the word Apathy?

english is not my first language you see.

well for problems of the us, few things that come to mind

huge amount of obese people

great rate of heart failure

highest suicide rate of the first world (tho sweden is close or even first)

huge amount of homeless people

rediculous lawsuits that make absolutely no sense

large number of people without medical security

a very stupid or at least seemingly stupid pres which makes it hard for other countries to take him very serious.

also i forgot you guys waste way too much time and money on drug policy the more liberal you are with those things the least problems you get.

look at us here in holland. weed, shrooms, roids, all legal.
E`s are decriminalized.

no problems at all with em. people who are gonna use em are gonna use em. banning them creates a whole world of smuggling, unpure drugs, dealing, violence, corrupty, all shit

-The rise of the transnational corporation. Such corporations have supplanted states as the primary actors in the world. They are authoritarian, and their only allegiance is to profit. These men control global policy.

-Loss of accountability in government. The abolition of US sovreignty has been almost unanimously opposed by the American electorate. US elites refuse to discuss the issue.

-The elimination of the 2-pary system. The USA is now a 1 party system. Similar to the USSR under Kruschev. There is NO substantive difference between Republicans and Democrats.

-Mass Immigration: abuses immigrants by refusing them legal status while allowing them to work. Drives down American wages. Renders political consensus impossible, as US Elites have seen fit to cram several nations into one jurisdiction.

-Abolition of the US Constitution:
The Legislature does violence to the COnstitution on a daily basis. American are no longer free. The US Government in 2002 is an unconstitutional, essentially "occupation" regime.

The US is about 50 years and counting...

actually "legally" speaking we have been in a state of war for almost the entire time this country has been a country.......

and the elite and those who controll the government have many powers and abilities that they otherwise would not have in times of "peace" they would actually be illegal...........think about it.....we are not even the country that was intended to be.....

What's a butt plug (and where did you learn about them)?

They are (he means) people like Bill Clinton and his disgusting wife who let groups like NAMBLA infest into community government and social acceptance.

I thought NAMBLA was an order of Catholic priests.

All good posts but I need to add:

Suburban sprawl and gas sucking cars/SUVs/trucks have been detrimental to our country. oh, and WALMART

Suburban sprawl has destroyed our environment and our communities. It has left vibrant cities decimated and cohesive towns submerged. Walmart has torn the heart out of the small town. How many of you have been to rural america and seen the small main street boarded up and left soulless only to have a huge Walmart on the edge of town, at the highway intersection, sucking up all the economic activity.

Big gas guzzling vehicles are the biggest hypocracy. Americans are so tied into the middle east for our energy needs. If we gave up our big cars and subjugated our egos to be willing to drive smaller/ gas efficient vehicles we could then disengage our selves from the mess in the middle east and let those folks run their own lives.

It should be patriotic to drive small cars. Those of you who have to tank up every other day because you only get 8 miles to the gallon are giving support to the culture bent on the destruction of the USA.

I say slap a 3 dollar a gallon tax on gasoline, use the money to rebuild our street car lines and other forms of public transportation. We could quit spending so much money on defense (e.g. don't need middle east oil then that area will not be vital to american selfinterests). What the big defense contractors lose in government military contracts (e.g. Northrup Grumman/Lockheed) can be made up for in civil contracts....... some one has to build all the street cars that would be used!!. these folks are after all engineering companies. This would also force people back into the cities to live and work. To those of you who think high energy prices will destroy our economy need only to look at Europe to see that they manage to not only get by but thrive at gas prices close to 4 dollars a gallon.

I could go on and on......... oh well

Move to Europe.

I agree with the Wal Mart part.. but talking about driving little cars is talking about changing the heritage of this country.

I will never own a econo car.

You think big cars with poor gas mileage is what the founders had in mind when the Constitution and Bill of Rights were drawn up? Heritage of the country???

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

Move to Europe.

This doesn´t address the problems discussed.

Nor was excessive greed/profit at the expense of others, or there would have been something in place for that, mandatory taxation for big corporations.

I'd be impressed if Bush asked the nation to be patriotic, and sacrifice the gas guzzlers for OBVIOUS reasons.

........as long as Daimler can make a Benz that's legal..... :D
