What's up with the banner?

I chose platinum way back in it's infancy because I didn't want the annoying banners. Now I see this horribly out of place banner at the top. I never did it to view pics or the played out karam system. I really can't stand it and what makes it even worse is that the allignment is off making it look 10 times worse
