What's the point of the Dean's List?

"Congratulations on making the Dean's List for the Spring 2001 semester. You should be very proud of your accomplishments and I am sure your family is proud of you" That's great man. Do I get anything?

If I walk into the Dean's office and say "hey buddy what's up? I'm on your list. Gimme free stuff" does anything special happen? If it weren't for this realllllly nice paper it was printed on, I would have tossed this in my junkmail pile (i.e. the garbage can) by now.

So, do I get any special stuff?

Just as I suspected. Thank you for confirmation. My Dean's List letter will be converted into a paper airplane just as soon as I show it to my parents and I am told how special I am.

when I first heard about it, I always thought it meant you were in trouble. I figured you were on this list and he'd want to talk to you and whenever you had to talk to deans, you were in trouble.

once I discovered the internet and that I could teach myself anything I wanted, my grades took a nosedive since I never (rarely) went to class.
needless to say I never had any worries about getting on the deans list... but I did have to go and talk to them a lot.

i always get on it, its pointless i just get handed a certificate that congradulates me for my achievments, but then my parents give me a gift so its all good.

What's thje point of being Time's Man Of the Year?, baseball's MVP, employee of the month, Kentucky Colonel, Mr. Olympia, .......etc.

Sometimes it's just nice to be recognized for good work. (BTW I was on that Dean's List twice in college.)
