whats goin wrong guys

essentials

New member
hu there

new to board

basically been brewing for about 6 months now
have a decent raw source ..supplys ect

using Nalgene Complete Filter Units with Nylon Membranes .2um, 70mm filter paper

and a hand pump..

recently made 500ml of test prop at 100mg/ml
poured 500ml into top part of filter unit

applied the pressure and let filter..
ive removed the top section after filteration was complete and immeidiately capped it with the lid supplied

now its looks crystal clear however when you shine in direct sunlight you can see particles(not bubbles) sitting on bottom of 'sterile' reciever flask

i can see around 4 when i shake the reciever they dont move..

ba was 3% and bb 20%...and i only had a light pressure applied so no chance of rupturing the filter

does anyone know what the foreign bodies are..there microscopic..just i know there there

ive followed as normal, extreme sterile conditions..and through a .2um filter unit i normally assume it should be crystal what comes out in the reciever

basically the units are sterile and wrapped in a vaccumm pouch..

are the particles already in the reciever ..they wont move however just stuck to the inside of the bottom

will it be safe to use after allowing 5-7 days after filteration

regards guys hope you can help with this mystery

Yes i use them aswell. can you take a pic of the actual problem, I mean the things you see at the bottom?

hmm cant upload due to i need 25 posts to post images its displaying

right well

im usign rubber septas and an 18g needle to draw ligquid through

im looking at the rubber now and noticed it has big marks and small holes right the way through
im guessing the 'contaminents' are parts of the rubber septa

hmm any ideas guys

what setup do you use with no probs for vaccum filteration

as in what brand model ect

When I filter I aeve all my gear in a beaker and I pour it into the top of the filter and put the lid on. I use the vacuum hand pump and build up pressure to filter the product.

I dont you any syringes to draw anything with at this point. However when it comes time to bottle I have a 20 ml or a 60ml syringe to dray then put into vials that I rubber stop and crimp a flip cap on.

NO, i turn my nalgene reciever unit into 1 big vial using a rubber septa cap

i turn upside down to withdraw the contents and to transfer into sealed vials i have to withdraw into a 10ml syringe and shoot into the sealed vial

im doing this using a 18g needle..im asking is that whats causing holes in my rubber due to the thickness..what size do you recomend 19-21g?

Yes its probably the gauge you are using. 18g is like a harpoon but the rubber should be able to take it. If not bump the gauge down but its gonna be harder to draw unless you pressurize it by injecting air into it for a while.

Yes its rubber and you need to refilter all of your vials. Then use a 22 or 23 guage pin to extract otherwise you are going to have the same problem.
Good luck!
