What's DC like in the summer?

My hubbie is currently in Weshington DC, and I have found that lastminute.com have not-too-astronomically priced flights of the leave-in-3-days variety. Given that I expect them to have these options all summer, like in 3 weeks' time, what's DC like in August? As f I visited him, he'd be at work all day....

Is it expensive to eat/get around?

nearly 100% exactly the same way it is in the winter. except warmer.

also, don't eat or throw trash in the metro - they have an evil army of guards that will violate you repeatedly and they see all.

IT'S FRIGGING HOT!!!!!!! holy shit it gets humid.

There are places to get around and tons of sites to see all of which are cheap. The metro is inexpensive and isn't too bad for a metropolitan city. Food can be expensive or cheap, depends on where you go. If you're smart you won't have to spend much money.

Living there is a whole different story.

Have fun!

I wouldn't worry too much about that circusgirl, there are ways to get around those silly guards. The easiest is to use an old magician's trick to make it look like the ugly smelly guy who is leering at you and sitting across from you is eating or throwing the trash and then just take a few steps back and watch the guards attack.

CG -

I don't know if any of the other respondents live here, but I do. August is HOT. It has been very HOT all summer - 95-100 degree days with humidity - it is not a dry heat.

Having said that, the Metro system is the cleanest/safest in the US. Not extensive like NY, but definitely nice.

You can eat as cheap or as expensive as you'd like. All of the major sites to see are easily accessible via Metro - but you would likely see most stuff by the end of the 1st or 2nd week.

I don't know where you are coming from, but most people like it here. If you want PM me offline for more questions.

Yes I live here, yes it is really hot, yes it is easy to get around once you get to a Metro station, yes there is a lot to do (such as myself) while hubby is at work.

Thanks for all the replies folks! Indeed, I'd love to see the space museum.... I reckon I'll be off to visit DC then next month.

the national museum of art DOMINATES most other art museums in the states. I've been to some others just to compare and there is no comparison.
