What Supplements?

glutamine, aminos..good multi vitamin, lots of water..and nutrition is the KEY....

I usually take 5-7grams in my shake after heavy training....

how many exercises should women do per body part? and can you give me rep range. This is of course while on a diet.

In my opinion.... women are no different in terms of training. If she wants size, lift heavy heavy heavy. Whether dieting or not.

She doesn't want to get big she just had a baby and wants to lose about 30lbs in 5 months. she just wants to look fit again.

If shes not doing any AAS and maybe only thinking about regular fat burners, whether it be an ECA stack or clen/T3 she WONT get big either way.... W/o any real drugs she doesnt have the testosterone to put any size on. Such a misconception when it comes to women and how they're supposed to lift...

Just have her lift just like anyone else. Get her on a good cardio program and clean up her diet. She'll lose for sure and wont have to worry about getting big like a bodybuilder.

Thanks for clarifying that for me, and your help.

One more Question. She wants to drop 30lbs, she currently weighs 180 after her Pregnancy. Her current calorie intake is anywhere from 1500 to 1700. She also eats about 5 times per day her main problem is all the sugar and fatty food.
I read somewhere that one should not go under 1800 cals. If she increases her calories and cuts the fatt and sugar. will she lose weight?

I know what you mean about all the sugar, that was my problem too. Definitely needs to trade those sugar calories for healthy calories. That's great she's already eating 5 times a day. You're correct about not getting calories too low. Got to have enough fuel in her furnace to train. As she trains, she'll trade the fat for lean mass, which will make fat-burning even easier. As she gains more lean mass, she'll may need to bump calories UP so she can keep her new muscle and continue to burn fat.

Like it's already been said, she shouldn't be afraid to train hard and heavy, like in the 8-10 rep range for upper body, maybe slightly higher reps for lower body depending on her build.

Rather than think "lose 30 pounds", she should think 'lose inches and body fat'. Toss the scale and get her body fat measured. Or monitor progress by mirror and how clothes fit. Remind her that muscle is denser than fat, which means it's heavier BUT takes up less space. Since I started training hard and heavy, my weight has increased slightly, but I DROPPED two pant sizes and look tons better.

Bigrich...

My personal opinion on the calories... she can definitely lower her calories. 1800 calories is a hell of a lot of calories when dieting. Now for me when I did my contest diet I was down to 1100-1200 calories per day and that was WITH twice per day cardios... Yes I came in pretty shredded but I'm just trying to make you see the calorie difference. There is no way in hell I would have lost enough weight and been so lean if I was eating even 1500 calories.

About the calories...I'm sure NYM and Spatts and Temple would tell you not to go below 10 times bodyweight when dieting, and if she's working out, probably not below 12x bodyweight. In my opinion the exact number really varies on the person, but eating clean makes the biggest difference. Remember her health is very important, and going below 10x the weight could jeopardize her well being. She's not trying to shred up, she's trying to lose fat. Don't get into all the complicated stuff now. Just try to get her on a good diet without much of the sugary or fatty stuff, keep her eating 5 times a day, drinking water, taking a multivitamin, and THEN worry about calorie counting. I think the Body For Life principles Bill Phillips lays out in his book by the same name are a wonderful starting point for someone who is just starting to get into (or get back into) the fit lifestyle. Equal amounts of carbs and protein, minimal fats. I think that as soon as she starts eating clean and starts lifting the fat will fall right off. No need to obsess about the exact numbers until she's got like 10-15 # left to go.

Also, you mentioned using an ECA stack. Supplements like that aren't exactly good for you, so maybe you might want to consider not having her use that until she starts to plateau. With the amount of weight she wants to lose, just eating clean and working out alone should yield good results.

IQ - when you were restricting that heavily were you on some gear to help preserve muscle?? What were your stats?

Do you think you would have lost a bunch of muscle without the gear on that low of cals? Without gear when I would drop mine like that I would lose 1# muscle for every 1# of fat but maybe that is just me.

For sure I would have lost a ton of muscle w/o AAS. Positively. I held all the muscle I had and I think actually put some on in the beginning... This time I'll be able to eat a little more bc my LBM is about 10 lbs higher so it wont be so bad. :) I'm psyched to start dieting for my next show!! Can't wait!
