Instead of the obvious answer to this question which whould be "what?", i will actually answer it... it's a catchphrase that Steve Austin uses in the WWF... he plays a "badass" character and says that to whatever the opponent is saying in order to piss them off. It is actually kind of funny because the crowd picked up on it and has started doing it back to him.

I have been going "WHAT?" all my life to people because I am either not listening plus my hearing aint what it was 10 years ago due to being around heavy machinery and scoffing earplugs back then.

I can just see my old man showing up at a WWF event now in full fatiques and a mchine gun looking for Austin because of all the kids running around town yelling "What?" to each other.
