If you want a brutal war movie with a lot of truth in it, but no fighting, look for one called Japanese Rose (or something like that) about the American women that were taken prisoner during the war and put in a concentration camp.

The part where they are about to behead the woman after making her kneel all day long with a stick wrapped with barbed wire stuck between her hamstring and calf is just plain brutal.
