What I feel airports/airlines should start doing

Freak Show

This will, by no means, solve all of our problems, but it is a start. What they need to do (airports and airlines) is not hire every illiterate inbred lowlife and illegal immigrant (Yes, this has happened many times) to work security and baggage handling!! Have you seen the fucks who work at the airports? No offense if you do, but most of the people I remember hardly look like they can tie their own shoes let alone be a security officer. One of the news stations showed just how easy it was for their undercover agents to get jobs in airports/airlines with no background checks and no qualifications. Then they went on to describe just how many illegal immigrants actually work for airports/airlines and lets just say it didn't make me feel any better.

I have to agree with you. Years ago when I was in university I was hired by a company where I live to do airport security and baggage checks.

The pay was pathetic and I could see that people didn't take much care in what they do.

You need quality people in these jobs and they need to be well paid. What they do is very important and they need to be better compensated.

I should add I quit after 1 day when I saw how things were done and they kind of people I was working with. I figured there was a better way to pay for university.

I think that every airplane should have at least one crew member who has a gun and is trained to properly use it. This would never have happened had there been one good guy with a gun on these flights.

The jobs pay like $9.00 per hour. If you want educated people, you'll have to pay like $20 per hour. Are you willing to accept the doubling in the cost of tickets/parking, etc.?

That is the question all of us in democratic countries will have to answer. I myself will gladly pay more for better security in our airports

Very true, matt. But there has to be more stringent qualifications at the very least!!! This is not McDonalds. Airports/airlines do not have to cater to illiterates and degenerates. They hold peoples lives in the palm of their hands. LITERALLY. Seeing these people get offered jobs on the spot was ridiculus. And that was just at one airport. Think of how many others employ the same hiring process.

I honestly am not sure it would make a great enough difference...I believe someone who could plan something of this magnitude could find out how to beat the $20 an hour secutrity people as well as the $9/hour ones.

I like the idea of Air Marshalls.

I agree w/ Freak Show about more stringent requirements though.

A job will be treated according to the value we place on it. We already fail at placing high value on teachers' jobs.... <no excuse for this... but that's another thread> At least they can derive some value from knowing they are helping children. If the job of airport security is viewed as protecting the country's national safety and security, you bet it will be valued. If its viewed as the schlep who pushes people's shit thru the x-ray machine, it will be valued accordingly.

We definitely have gotten WAAAAY to comfortable in our country.... Reality sucks.

Heres an easy way to make flight alot safer---Seal off the cockpit completely----The pilot an his crew enter from the outside----They have no physical contact with anybody on board.

Exactly. Have it completely shut off. The pilot and crew should have their own pots to piss in (or bathroom) and a snack bar.

I thought about the same thing. But imagine if you were that pilot or copilot and could literally hear the terrorists killing your crew and passengers. How could you live with that? Someone on the news yesterday said no one could speculate this would happen because most hostage situations end in the plane landing and some/all hostages being released. When I think about it, that's how most of the ones I remember have ended. However, if they (pilots) did know they were going to be a human sacrifice then, HELL YEAH, seal that bitch off.

You don't need additional security. Just keep the Arabs off the fucking planes. Arabs are the only ones who hijack planes. I know it's not fair to the good arabs, but I think saving lives is more important than inconveniencing a small group of people in this country.

Naw...What they need to do is give everyone that boards a plane a knife....everyone is equal now!!!

So when Allah the Terrible stands up and makes demands, some redneck good ole boy will sit him the fuck down....

Freak Show----By sealing off the cockpit----and making it policy that if hijacked land to the nearest airport----you may have saved lives. It would give terrerist no incentive to highjack a plane. They would know what our policy is and get no where with it. If they kill the people aboard then that would be horrible but it would be no diff- then if they were to walk into Burger King and kill people. How many terrerist walk into something that is not political and kill people. Not many, if not any. If they can not get to the pilot then they can not get to thousands of people. And by doing that, we just took a big weapon out of there hands.

Many months ago the Federal Avation Administratoin probed many US airports with undercover "agents" to see just exactly how lax airport security is. On many occasions these agents were able to sneak past security checkpoints and actually enter the airport using unlocked doors. They were then able to board empty airplanes and plant fake pipe bombs.

So one option that's being looked at is to have the Federal Government to take over airport security and have federal agents running the show. I'm sure our conservative and liberal members of this board can actually agree to let the Fed extend its powers to protect us all.
