I thought there is a difference... A hacker is someone who doesn't konw how to "do something" but just tries many different techniques until he finally "Hacks" it... while a Cracker knows exactly how to "crack" it and does it.

A hack is an inventive way of fixing/creating something. Like if I "hack" an rc file to apply a kernel patch that might prevent a unix box from booting.
A crack is to break into a file/computer system.
So if we apply these as pronoun, a hacker fixes/makes shit in a new/inventive way. And a cracker is someone who breaks into shit.
