23 guage 1.5" works with just about any oil based gear. I prefer 25 guage 1"; it's a little slower but virtually pain free.

I've tried 25 guage 1.5" and it's just too slow.

As long as you are getting the coal to the fire, use what ever you can!!!!! 22-23 guage seem to work nice 1 inch to 1.5 inches.
