what do ping and bitrate mean on napster like programs?

i use winmx and these always come up, what do they mean?

Ping is how long it takes apacket of data to go from your comp to their comp and back..You want low ping times. Bit rate is how many bits the track was recorded in. the lower quality, the shittier the sound, but the higher quality the better, BUT also the bigger the file size. Shoot for 128 or higher bitrate.
