Weight loss backfire

Well I intended to lose about 11-15lbs before my strongman comp on the 28th so I could come in at 280-285. I started at about 292 and figured in five weeks I could easily drop some weight and increase my cardio and mobility. Well I cleaned up my diet a lot and started doing cardio 3 times per week. Well as of yesterday I have gained 13lbs and now weigh 305. Can't complain too much as I am getting leaner and stronger, but just baffled by the weight gain. I may be as heavy as 310 by the time my contest happens in two weeks. Oh well BEEFCAKE, BEEFCAKE- Eric Cartman

Heavyweight cut-off is 265 at this comp. So I would have to lose 40lbs to get into the next lower weightclass. Don't think that is going to happen unless I cut off a leg, then I probably won't be able to compete anyway. ;)

haha bro - hey if you are more lean and bigger - who's complaining?

maybe the cleaner diet is just better and you are giving yourself more of what you need to grow...
 
Same problem. Have been cutting fast here, but about 10 days ago I greatly reduced the size of my refeeds (I carb up once every 4 days on my keto diet, and usually eat 1000-1500 grams of carbs) to about 350-400 grams of carbs eatin in about a half day period. I have regained 3-4 lbs, however a freind of mine today at the gym told me I look leaner and bigger in the last week... I keep thinking I look fatter and am holding more water. I looked jacked last night at while out clubbing. Meet three of my chick friends up there since one of them insisted I hang out with them and we bumped into an old friend of mine, who mentioned I looked freaky and very vascular, so I guess I can't bitch since this guy has an above average physique (since he complimented me... I hooked him up with one of my frends).

Scotsman, hmmm... have you increased your calories? One would expect the opposite effect. Are you on anything?

I know right, then they just give me a hard time... they all got into a conversation and agreed I was a slut. Then the one who insisted I come (she is strictly a plutonic friend) tells me "Ok move a couple of feet farther away from me...no one is going to ask me to dance with you around. i think shes trying to get you jealous, or to make it seem that she is your type. If she thinks youre a slut then she probably thinks that is what you look for in the opposite sex also.

No, she is a good friend, she is not trying to get with me. She is not looking for a relationship, and really is a slut. Anywho she makes a good wingman when out, I help her get hot guys sometimes, and she helps me out with girls. She does cockblock me sometimes, but other times she has helped me alot.

I never have the same club story twice. Finding a girlfriend does not seem to be a successful endevor at the moment (at least a girlfriend I like), so I am settling for sex in the mean time. I've given up on looking for a girlfriend for now. If the right girl comes along, great, but I am sure not goign to wast as much time, money and energy looking as I have in the last year. Sex, on ther other hand, is free, available and very easy to find.
 
Holy fuck BBF you have turned my gaining weight thread into another of your clubbing/dating threads, major props on the hijack.

As for being on anything I started creatine two weeks ago and tribulus two days ago. So neither of those should be a contributing factor as I was already gaining weight before hand.

Debaser- Glad to know you are a handicap strongman pioneer, now represent for the rest. ;)

Becoming- Maybe I just am getting more protein or something but like you said I am not complaining, just a little worried the extra weight will slow me down a bit for the more mobility oriented events.

Ok, well if you have cleaned up your diet (but have you cut calories???) and are not on any gear taht type of weight gain is pretty unusual. Unless you have kept your caloric intake the same, but due to cleaning up your diet you have removed some dificences (alot of processed foods can block the absorbsion of essential nutrients for example hydrogenated oils can interfear with the absorbsion of EFA's) and created a more anabolic diet. Calorie per calorie, clean foods tend to be more anabolic than junk food, due to the nutritional value.

My calorie count is probably at the same or slightly lower than it was. No "supplements" right now just creatine and tribulus. May get some glucosamine/chondroitin for the joints, but other than that haven't been taking anything.

As I always say, a clean diet will always yield better gains in muscle mass than bulking on junk food. About how many calories are you taking in a day?

Probably in the 5-7K range. Though some days way less if I am busy doing other things.

Wow, orb, you eat less than I do, and I don't do any activities other than weight training. However it seems to be working for you, ifyou are over 300 lbs, gaining weight and getting leaner.

Now if I was trying to bulk I usually go up to about 10K, but at that point I just get tired of eating.

Ok, that sounds better. I bulk on about 7K and only hit 239 this year... but I'm 5'9".

Also I have higher bodyfat than you so I don't need quite as many calories to maintain the muscle as long as I am eating properly, I can use up some of the storage.

True, and a point many seem to miss when working out their diets. The leaner you are the harder it is the build muscle mass without a higher caloric intake in your diet, since your body does not have as much of an energy reserve to fuel muscle growth.

Exactly that's why I actually like to put on some extra fat while bulking so I can keep more of what I build if I decide to lean out.

cant you just not eat any real food except fiber if youve got a lot of fat storage and let your body use everything up to lean ya out?
