I agree. I measure based on moisture/liquid factor. For example , chicken will weigh less after broiling because of the loss of water , fat , etc. Items such as potatoes I weigh before cooking , beacuse I boil them in chicken bouillion :p , so they will not be so bland , and they will always weigh more after this.

Generally I will measure Rice, Oatmeal & taters (raw) before cooking.

Meat & veggies I measure after cooking.

I usually follow what the package says "cooked vs. uncooked" so I can get the #'s as exact as possible.

Same here.

I also - once I get it home - add EVERYTHING I buy as a custom food in fitday if it has the nutrition info on the package.........

I have never measured green veggies. The amount of calories in them are so low, it is hard to overeat them. Plus, they are my main source of vits and mins while eating clean, it made no sense to limit them. AND, they are full of fiber and make you feel more full.

Meat - always weigh after. Rice, cream of wheat (I don't eat oatmeal) - weigh before. Potatoes, I think I weighed after cooking.

Ok here's another question. When ya'll measure meat and such do you use a scale or the hand ratio thing. I use my hand, am I doing this all wrong????

I bought a scale for $10 at KMart 'cuz I'm no good at weighing anything with my hand.

Most items are weighed after cooking & my cream of wheat and oatmeal are in single serving packages so I don't weigh those.

I add almost everything I eat to fitday as a custom food so that I get as close to the real numbers as I can.

I weighed with a $10 scale from a supplement store. I don't trust the "hand thing" - there is too much room for error and variations.

Ok so I'm going to get a scale this weekend. I need to go to Vitamin world and get a few things I'll check them out while I'm there. Thanks!!!
