War nerves

Before you begin, let it be known that there is absolutely no point to this thread actual nor implied.

Does anybody else notice how much you involuntarily tap into your fight or flight response prior to lifting? This seems to be a pretty overwhelming thing that your body goes through before any vigorous activity, like it is preparing for the shit to hit the fan. Generally, before I start any kind of exercise I have a tendency to prepare mentally .5-1 hour ahead of time and physically, I get the feeling that I can only compare to being scared shitless. Back in the day, when I played football I attributed this to an anxiety of getting the piss knocked out of you and vice versa. Then, when I picked up bicycle racing I attributed the pre-training feeling to a fear of getting run over by some backwards redneck on a country road. Now that I picked up lifting I get even more freaked out. To my surprise, I still get the same nervousness while I am walking to the gym pre-workout. It's weird because other than dropping a plate on your toe or some shit the gym is relatively safe. Maybe you just subconsciously know that you are about to be in a world of pain and your head is struggling with the prospect. That's it.
ahhh..Mental masterbation, it's my Anti-drug.

I get that too before doing squats, it's perfectly logical.

You hit the nail there anyway:

"Maybe you just subconsciously know that you are about to be in a world of pain and your head is struggling with the prospect. "

Ive thought about that as well.I seem to always need to put Godsmack or Rammstien in my mp3 player to get "Prepared". I have been thinking lately that maybe it isnt that good to get all worked up before.

No bro, it's good. It's real good. One needs it before a damn painful workout, especially before a fight.

I get alittle pre-pumped, but nothing like fight or flight with me...I walk in whistling

I feel like Calm and Focus Might actually Harness more Power.Im still working on it.

Is that the Rocky theme tune I can hear in the background?

Good call...highlights the cheesiness of the whole idea. I generally avoid the whole grey sweatsuit scene though.
