it is free. also plays movies and music. I like it better than ACDSee because it uses less processor and lets you scroll through your fullscreen pics with scroll wheel very quickly.

I work a lot with Photoshop and have to look through zillions of pics. ACDSee is good too, but I had problems with it using too much processor when I already had Photoshop already sucking resources like a Tiajana hooker, and it would sometimes even lock up on its own. I've tried several other programs and the freeware Irfanview beat out non-free programs in pure speed.
The editing functions provide good quality when you just need to do a little color correction, cropping, or turning the image and don't feel making the effort of loading Photoshop or whatever. After Photoshop, I used some of the Irfanview color corrections and file re-sizing to finish this little trifle I whipped together: http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5472075&postcount=41
It scrolls through images as fast as you can roll your mouse wheel (as long as you have a descent amount of memory) and is especially handy when you've got vids mixed with pics. Such as for "one-handed surfing"...or so I'm told.
