We all know the majority of video games today are aimed towards the mature crowd.

I came across this and was curious on others opinions. Is this acceptable or not?

This was taken from the anticipated RPG game Fable to be released on xbox early next year. It is suppose to be very realistic. I'll withhold my opinion until later.

A single screenshot does not give us the context of the scene - and certainly not the game in it's entirety.

CONTEXT ?

In what context real or fiction would that be OK ?

COOL! I thought killing innocent people and policemen was cool. (GTA Vice City) But now, I can kill children as well. Sign me up!

Anyone remember Bionic Commando for Nintendo? In that game you got to kill Nazis, and then you killed a resurrected Hitler.

All your base are belong to us.

This game is a role-playing type game.
It's fictional, but set in a realistic time period.

You are free to do anything in the game. You can choose to do good, or you can become evil and murder people (even the children which is where this screenshot came from), steal, burn villages down, etc.

It's so realistic that you have the sun rise and set. If you only go out at nighttime, your skin bleaches out. If you drink too much you get a beer belly. If you receive a scar in battle and do not treat it, it stays with you the entire game.

Looks pretty fake to me.

Let me tell you this tho, as much video game violence as I've ever seen, the beginning to 28 day's later , the movie, when they are beating the hanging guy... As simple as that scene may be, that hit me 10000000000 times harder than anything has ever hit from a video game. That's not saying much tho', as no animated violence ever really got to me in video game form.

sounds like a cool a$$ game if you ask me... to bad I am a PS2-ite...

any other vile stuff you can do?

My opinion:

I think that video games are a great way to fulfill the feelings and desires we seek or are curious about in real life, but would never actually do.

As long as we can keep things like this out of children's possession, I do not disagree with promoting such things.

Video games are a great escape and I personally am going to get this game when it comes out.

If you're gonna cross a line, why only cross it by 2 inches? Throw in some assrape and dismemberment, then we'll talk.

Not sure.
I do know that you are free to choose your own path. You can simply retire and open up a stable and race horses for money, or sell weapons. You can even get married, but the developers want you to stay on tract of either ruling the world or saving it, that if you get married people will eventually murder your wife.

No joking. This game is def. unique.

I see no problems with it.
I don't think killing kids in real life is good.
The computer world is different.

But it does raise an interesting question of who is at fault if someone can't distinguish between the real world and a computer game.

I had an idea for a game at least a year ago - likely more - that was essentially going to allow one to do anything that they wanted in a fake world. The startup fees were too high and I amusingly enough couldn't get financial backing because they didn't feel that anyone had proven that it was done already or that there would be interest.
Now at least I'm seeing that it was idea that would have worked like I knew it would. Could have licensed Nike and Coke, etc - games are doing that now too. In game ad placement - buy clothes from stores in the game that allow you to wear current fashions, etc etc.

oh well.
Nobody ever raised the ethical questions the game might bring about when I talked to them about money - it was always people like my mom that raised the questions.

In which regard would you have my answer. Lets go with reality.

That's suposed to be a kid with the sword through his head I assume? Lets say you walk in on this kid after he nailed your young daughter's hands and legs to the floor and is penetrating her vagina with a red hot poker. If you wouldn't put a steel shaft through his head I would. Then I'd put one through your head for not doing it.

It ain't good. bor!

peter molyneux(sp?) explained in a interview that was just a leaked picture of the programers fucking around and the game itself was never going to have child killing anyway.

in other news the game has been delayed again. i think we're looking at another duke nukem forever here.

I would play a game like that, as long as theres the option to kill innocent people. I think a lot of people would actually.

The closest game like that right now is The Sims, which totally sucks.
