VCD burning advice

OK... Ive downloaded a few South Park 'avi' files and want to watch them on my TV.
I understand that the way to do this is to burn a VCD. I know my DVD player wil play it cuz I've watched a VCD before.

So I need recommendations on what program to use to burn the VCD.
Freeware, of course, would be preferred.

I use Nero but first convert the movie to VCD compliant MPEG-1 format with TMPGenc.

avi is not vcd format, you probably have divx files that have to be converted.

like skinning a cat, there are more than 50 ways to do it, and depending on the file you begin with, your choices can be even greater ....
