If you're going to do insulin you are going to need more than the responses in this thread. I would try to point you to Bigandy's insulin FAQ but I'm not plat anymore so I can't search. There are two great old school posts concerning insulin that everyone thinking of using insulin should read. One is Bigandy's post and the other is Monster's insulin primer. I'll try to find them for you or if someone who is plat could point you in the right direction that would be great.
