unlocked cell phone

New member
who has bought one of these and does everything work the same , like the internet and all that shit

Yes, I bought one, its windows mobile so the platform is the same.
Internet is the same, mine has an internal wifi modem, plus its also gsm/gprs so anywhere in the coverage I can surf the internet.
It had more features than any phone/pocket pc that you could buy in the US at the time plus I can take it overseas no problem.
If it wasnt for that, Id just have saved the money, those new Treo's I see advertised on commercials look pretty cool for 399$, not sure if it has a wifi internal modem.
No matter what you get you have to get a contract, since I can go overseas with it and slip in a new card. I dont have to worry about paying overseas rates to Cingular which would be like a buck a minute to use my phone or something crazy. Plus my contract was that I had to pay full retail for another phone so I chose the unlocked phone for several reasons and paid more.
I went through www.celluloco.com but found slightly cheaper places later.
I also saw quite a few unlocked phones on ebay. I couldnt use mine with Verizon though, just cingular and tmobile

since i have the internet already on my plan , if i buy brand new unlocked phone it will all carry over.

the reason i ask is cuz i was readin about the phone and it says

if you wish to use this phone for internet access or other Data & GPRS related services please call your service provider (PRIOR TO BIDDING/BUYING) and ask them if they can activate GPRS and configure this Phones browser for you. Please note we will NOT take this phone back under any circumstances if you are unable to access the web or use GPRS etc.

yeah, I ran into the thing where it was no problem if I continued with Cingular and the plan but I was thinking of switching to Verizon b/c Cingular was pissing me off after I had I took back a pocketpc from them.

It wouldnt work with qwest or Verizon.
Whose your service provider?
Its not that hard to set it up though, all you need is some information from them, the retail people at Cingular said that they wont help you if you buy an unlocked phone but thats b/c they get commission for selling phones.

well thats what the retail people said but I called the service line all the time. Especially getting my laptop set up correctly for broadband through their gprs network. No one knew what the hell they were talking about.
Your paying for the service and the contract, the retail people like I said want to say that b/c they want you to buy their locked phones. But I did do that and they screwed it up and drove me insane trying to get on the internet when I had time so finally I was so mad I took it back and bought an unlocked phone anyhow.
You can bug them til they give the info to you, its not that hard to set up, your paying for the service afterall.
If its Cingular compatible phone then should be no problem

that looks like a sawastea phone
