What are the top supplements i can take for BP? Was fine few days ago but today i notice its 137/85

First, make sure you're getting enough calcium, magnesium, and potassium - they help maintain proper blood pressure.

Garlic is known to lower blood pressure

And if you're into Ayurveda therapy, sankhapuspi and ashwagandha can help.

Choose foods lower in salt and sodium. they had me on some attacand . the spelling may be wrong. but it did help..now im not on anything..and blood pressure if fine..

Clinical trials conducted with Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) have shown it to be an effective treatment for some types of high blood pressure (Southern Medical Journal 2001;94:112–7). It is particularly useful for people on "statin" drugs for high cholesterol. I personally used CoQ10 at 60mg a day and found it worked as well for me as Vasotec 5 mg did. By the way, 137/85 is still fine. Most doctors typically don't start treatment until systolic is > 160 or diastolic is > 100.

My BP was 140/80-85 for years when on cycle it would be 150/90 or so. After my mild heart problem docs put me on BP med. (lopressor) My BP went down to 130/70-75.

I decided to try to clean everything up to see if I could get BP down without taking lopressor the rest of my life. I basically cut out almost all salt, used CoQ-10 from GNC, and started cardio. It worked. I think the salt made the biggest difference. For some reason I don’t think anybody knows why salt plays hell on BP.

Also excessive alcohol more than 3-6 drinks a day can raise it up. I would try concentrate mainly on the salt thing to see how that helps out. They have that fake salt now that I use. Flavors like salt but its salt free. Your BP is considered normal high right now but its best to get it down low as you can.

Stress is not good either :(

This Cq10 is a supplement available at GNC? Any side effects to it...what doses whould i take?

Did a Dr. take it or did you are a supermarket? Those automated cuffs weren't exactly made for built guys, so that sometimes throws them off a lil. Did you have it taken more than once?

If it is high, grapefruit (both juice and the actual fruit) lower bp. It's cheap and it works. If it doesn't get better over the next month or so then talk to a dr. I'm sure it will be fine though.

For breakfast I would have some egg whites, plain oatmeal (fruit sliced in for flavor) and a grapefruit. Have a good diet for the rest of the day and keep up with the cardio. See how that works. Don't sweat it though bro. :)

Grapefruit extract and cq10 then. I was taking it using one of those self testers. You wrap it around your wrist...and press start and it pumps and takes your pulse and pressure. Took it about 10 times and thats the average i got for 10 minutes of doing it.

I will try the juice and cq10. Thanks bros. Also i will cut sodium.

L-Taurine has shown effectiveness in lowering BP. It worked great for me with dbol induced BP increase. cheap too.

Here's a sample study

------
Taurine lowers blood pressure in the spontaneously hypertensive rat by a catecholamine independent mechanism.

Trachtman H, Del Pizzo R, Rao P, Rujikarn N, Sturman JA.

Department of Pediatrics, State University of New York, Stony Brook.

Taurine, a sulfur aminoacid, has been studied for a role in blood pressure regulation since it functions as a generalized inhibitory neurotransmitter and is found in high concentrations in the myocardium. We reinvestigated the magnitude of the hypotensive effect of chronic taurine administration to the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) and the role of catecholamines in such an action. The SHR received either a 1% taurine solution or tap water to drink for 16 weeks. Taurine treatment caused a significant persistent reduction in blood pressure by 4 weeks that was maximal at 16 weeks (146 +/- 6 [exp.] v 182 +/- 5 [control] mm Hg, P less than .01). While this taurine-induced decline in blood pressure in the SHR was not accompanied by alterations in plasma epinephrine levels, there was a steady 235% increment in the norepinephrine concentration from 231 +/- 31 pg/mL initially to 542 +/- 126 pg/mL at completion of the study, P less than .02. The reduction in blood pressure was associated with decreased proteinuria in the taurine-treated SHR (9.6 +/- 4 [exp.] v 21.5 +/- 7 [control] mg/24 h, P less than .02) and less cardiac and renal hypertrophy. We conclude that taurine administration results in a 20 to 25% reduction in blood pressure in the SHR. The mechanism of this hypotensive action requires further study but is independent of changes in plasma catecholamine levels. The vasodepressor effect of taurine leads to less hypertensive injury to the kidney and heart in the SHR.

the statin drugs tend to "purge" coq10 from your body ... so anybody using a statin should be supplementing coq10

Posted this in another thread. I've tried these in various combinations over the years with very good success. I researched all these supps. in a book titled Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. The dosages were adjusted for me and I also ran it all by my doctor first who prefered that I tried everything within reason before he put me on BP meds. If you take your own BP I'd recommend you do some research on the latest best models and make sure they come with a large cuff to get around your arm.
