fuck fuck's sake how many times to i have to tell you??

bleating
bleating
bleating
bleating

not bleeding heart.

Ok so you might call a liberal a "bleeding heart." Or you might say someone's argument only amounts to so much bleating (as in baa baa you sound like a sheep).

You should have seen this one then (google "bleeding heart liberal"):

The Ballad of the Bleeding Heart Liberal

My life has been a horror,
since I took up the liberal's art.
But now I don't feel so guilty
(It's great to be a "bleeding heart").

The secret of this art is easy:
just be nice to everyone.
Even to murderers and molesters
(It doesn't matter what they've done).

Every guilt was on my shoulders;
now listen to my tale:
I'm responsible for all evil
(I'm white, middle-class, and male).

Villains robbed my house once,
and my family they did assault.
But this was due to society's ills
(I knew it was not their fault).

My daughter tried to stop them;
they beat her with boot and fist.
I did not try to save her
(I'm a "born-again" pacifist).

Their actions I could not judge;
other people, I cannot condemn.
Even though my wife was "graped"
(there was a "bunch" of them).

etc, etc

Explanation of slang:
bleeding heart = a guilt-ridden do-gooder ("my heart bleeds for them")

I think he is suggesting it should be changed from bleeding to bleating, to match their sheep-like behavior.

no I'm saying that the phrase originated as "bleating heart liberal"

The commonly used term is bleeding heart liberal, as in the poem I posted above. If you have a reference that shows it originated as bleating heart I'd be glad to read it.

i couldn't find solid e-evidence, but npr did a special on this term. and it def. was bleating...lol @ that poem, nicely done. but i bet it is more recent and not the originator, even if I am wrong

WTF does a heart have to do with a sheep?

I'm not going to buy that w/o evidence.

how does a heart bleed and what does it have to do with being liberal?

Well, at least a heart is associated with blood...

The image of the heart encircled in thorns and dripping blood is a fairly common one. The phrase "bleeding heart" just seems to ring true.

Bleating heart? If something that distinctive yet non-sensical were part of the lexicon of any age, I think we'd have come across it by now.

bleating, the sound a liberal makes when you rip out his heart.
he bleats because of his sheeplish behaviour

That's quite a reach.

Re-read the poem. At first I thought you were suggesting liberals were like sheep so you yourself called them bleating hearts.

I now realize that you (mistakenly) thought that was the actual term.

You have no evidence. You got it wrong, my man.

showing me a poem, all though a good poem, is not really solid proof...how do you know the phrase doesn't pre-date the poem? the poem sounds fairly recent, in the last 20 yrs i would guess...phrase has been around longer than that no?

You're struggling a bit with reading comprehension tonight. I know, it's late. I referred to the poem not as proof, but to answer your question:

Sorry Lactoovodorf but you're losing this one. I am tempted to wikipedia that shit but I think between Longhorn, Mr. DB, and Gymgurl we have a trio of very smart and well-read people, plus myself, who have never heard the term "bleating heart" so I'ma gonna go with "uh-uh."

bor it is "Ludendorf," work on those comprehension skills.

if you don't agree fine then :)

Second time in two days that Mr. DB and I have agreed on something, but
I don't want to share GG M-F-M with him.

Uh, thanks.

What was the other time? I need to clip it for my scrapbook.

ps: what does the "GG" part mean?

Longhorn85 said:
I'm sure if you search your posts for the previous two days you'll find it.

That's a lot of work, how about a hint?

GG is gymgurl silly.

How about if we just take turns then?
