TV these days is insane

well I have been pretty busy as of the last year
and have not watched TV at all excpet for one of my favorite shows which is DBZ

any way I have had the misfortune of watching some this past week and the reality I see is so upside down, and so inside out, and the messages that are being perpetuated are so far removed form any notion of classical society that it literally makes me sick

also what really baked my noodle is how they market to kids

I mean 7 year old wearing lip liner, and short skirts?

and the values of greed and manilpulation, and backstabbing shown in so called reality shows has skewed the image of humanity it shown a bunch of 20 soemthings engaging in thinkign prcesses and behavior that only 10 years ag was abhorred

there has been a huge drop in good news, and there seems to be a huge disconnect form the overall outer world

and I see nothing but the perpetuation of iferiority complexex by the marketing machines planting the seeds of inferiortity and flase need in their minds

there is nothing wrong with fair advertising and convincing advertising, but it is so psychlogically intrsive and abusive of people that I don't think it healthy


this is not a critque on the capatialist system but more a reminder that I think things may be gettign a little bit out of hand and we must say something

some say not to worry for the media is not real and peopel really don't internalize it

and I may a course correction and say "oh really?!?!"

think about it more long term and out side your own narrow conception of your finite life

the knowledge passed down through eons has been passed form father to son, from neighbor to neighboor, from town to town country to country

a slow steady progression of collective historical, spiritual, human knowledge that has slowly bettered the qaulity of life for all humanity is about to be swept aside by a force that would eliminate it all in one fell swoop

this force is slowly eliminating clutures, and ways of being that are not condusive to the market place, this force seeks to make every being an island of self interst on to them selves with no historical identitiy to referance form, therefor the new breed of indudials ahs no historicla ties to the past and their identitity is formed in the here and now and since most of their information comes from a media and sconimic machine that only disseminates information that seeks to mislead people, and turn them inot the perfect consumer we are devoloving I fear into some scary territiory that is not healthy for the stability of a civilized society.....

and right now I just see the moral underpinnings being unravelled other thing will come next and if you say nothing it will be too late

I rarely go anywhere but these anymore when I do watch TV..

I agree with th imbecilic nature of modern TV shows, but what is the option over a free market? Government mandated "healthy" shows?

People need to punish the television producers through the power of consumers, but that requires people to not "want" what is currently on television.

Ummm... I think you are remembering something that never existed or never was as powerful and enlightening as you perceive it to have been. Only through what would be considered "media" have the masses enjoyed the accessability of knowledge. The printing press, radio, now television have all demonstrated the "unseen" world to the common person, who prior to these inventions only knew what he/she experienced in their restricted locations.

The above is where you and I will not agree. You hold value to collectivist/tribalistic concepts, i.e. "historical identity" vs. "islands of self interest". If you hold to the concepts of liberty, then man is an autonomous moral agent, vested with a moral claim only to himself (not a sociopathic selfishness, but a rational selfishness), not to the contingent facts of his form: white, black, American, Irish, etc. These are attributes which he has no control over, they were imparted to him without his consent, not stating that they are "bad", simply that they do not determine him. If you hold to the tribalistic ideas, then you have some obligation to perpetuate these catagories which you were born into. Should an Islamist teach his children to blow up others? Should a Christian teach his children to persecute heathens? Should Europeans re-institute mercantilism? Should Indians reject modern science and adopt their ancient mysticism?

I as an white American male, have no obligation to blindly support "American" culture, "white" culture, "European" culture, etc., simply because I was born into these catagories. Being an autonomous entity, I have the right to decide which of these have value to my being, what parts of these catagories have any "truth", and which parts are detrimental and can be discarded. Thus culture does and should be changing, for there are parts of it which have value and parts which are of no value. Days gone by were not as glorious as many attempt to paint, there were numerous inequities, which modern man has discarded and new ones that he is adopting. To claim that he must hold to the beliefs and practices of his fathers, is to strangle his ability to better himself.

This fear of man deciding how and what he wishes to consume is irrational. Why is man better off with less, than more? How is it that the modern luxuries that man's creative efforts have produced are worse than living primitively? Will all men decide properly on what is best for themselves? Of course not, but since he is a free agent, he will suffer the consequences.

We agree on the idea that man is devolving morally and philosophically, but I do not agree with your underlying idea that a restriction of his opportunities will somehow better him.
