ONe summer I didnt have a job so i spent the summer hand washing and waxing cars in my driveway ( i think I was 17 or 18 at the time). I did mostly family members' vehicles and some neighbors - its true that they say about word of mouth. I would for instance, drive my uncle to his office in his Lincoln TownCar, drop him off and drive home and begin working. Id spend the better part of all day detailing cars. BY the time he was readu for me to pick him up, the car looked wonderful. I think I only charged $30 at the time (I wont mention what year this was). Im impressed that I actually had to motivation to do ANYTHING that wasnt chugging beers and watching soap operas at that age.

ah i was so rich back then

you can joke all you want as long as you love me!

i almost typed that i would do you in heartbeat but i thought it would be inappropriate.

I did that too during the summer home from college. I bought a carpet cleaning machine and cleaned the interior too(that was when fabric seats was big). I averaged between 6 and 7 cars a day for the summer not all total detailing though. Some were just washed and vacuumed out.

Can't quite remember the amount I averaged but most of the time it was $250-$300 a day. Got $85.00 for a total detail. I think I grossed around $14,000-$15,000 that summer. Of course I had expenses but good money nonetheless.

sorry i have a turtle wax fetish... so right now i am imagining you in a bikini waxing on and waxing off... i could go on and on but then i would have to send the story to penthouse forum and start it off with "I can't believe this happened to me"

HumorMe - my operation was not as high tech as yours. i didnt really buy any equipment. i did maybe 2 cars max a day and it wasnt everyday of the summer. any money i made was minimal and i drank it away going out with my friends everynight. but hey, i had my own money. my dad just didnt want me sitting my ass on the couch everyday.

Well, I didn't have any money and I was kicking and clawing for ways to make some...lol. I bought the machine because I was looking for a niche in the market other carwashers were not providing. Plus I was picking up and returrning the cars to those that needed it.

Good times and very profitable. I could buy a gallon of liquid wax for about $15.00 and wax like hell everything in sight and still have half a gallon left. Low overhead.
