Turkey Burgers

At teh deli near me they make delicious turkey burgeres. Lately I've been having a turkey burger on a whole wheat roll with lettuce on it for lunch. These things taste so damn good that I'm nervous that they aren't as lean as I think.
Does anyone know what they put in these things (besides turkey). Do you think it's a safe bet to eat for someone on a diet? I figure - how fatty could a turkey burger be? -- but I hope I'm noe fooling myself and really eating a high fat meal in disguise.

Bronx, I cant speak for that deli - but I wil dsay they are a nice change up for a source of protein. I believe they're healthier than consuming red meat all the time. Ususally they can be bought just like beef with different fat content -90% lean, 95% lean ect - the ones with a little more fat do tast better-actually their great

i've seen ground turkey as high as 80/20 so i'd be a little cautious. also, somtimes restraunts add a good bit of oil to cook with... i'm sure they'd let you know the fat content of the meat as well as how it is cooked if you ask

It varies depending upon what meat they use in the burger patties.

I buy these from a grocery store, and one type has like 1g of fat in a burger, another has about 8g. I would think that they coild aoso have more depending upon what is in the burger.

Deli made means the guy takes some turkey grinds it up, then takes a bunch of fat/filler/&who knows what else/etc and mixes it all together to make a burger. you're better off getting the purdue brand (or tyson i think) prepackaged at supermarket. they list nutritional content and tastes great- about5 grams fat if i recall per 25 gr protein.

Go to a Fuddruckers or someplace that sells Ostrich burgers and I think you will be surprised.Ostrich might be a little more than Turkey. Many places that sell burgers are starting to lean towards specialty burgers. Ostrich is the leanest piece of meat and healthy.

Like Riker said, it varies from brand to brand. It is really best to buy a product that lists the nutritional information that way there are no surprises.

Agree with getting the turkey burgers packaged from Purdue/Tysons... With the summer comind around, sure is a good switch to make some burgers than steak and chicken on the grill.
