Turkey bratwursts...

I like to put them on hoagie rolls. The Foreman grill works well for cooking them. It's hassle free and puts those sanitaryl little grill marks on them like they are from a commercial or something.

You know on that movie "Dead Presidents" when they're in Vietnam and the dude gets his penis cut off and shoved in his mouth? When turkey bratwursts are raw, they look kind of like the penis did in that movie. Funny how things are.

I will now. never be able to eat one again!

If you took one of those raw bratwursts and put a little rubber band really tight a little ways down from the end, you could even make it look like it had a head.

I like em too, but they're not that much more healthier than regular brats if I'm not mistaken.

I think they're quite a bit leaner. You can also cook a lot of fat out if you stick 'em with a fork a couple of times while they're on the grill.

I checked and for some reason I recall the difference was marginal, espeically if you're like me and can eat a whole package. and you probably can eat more than me. :)

Yeah, I ate four of them last night. I would have eaten the last one, but I saved it for my roommate since I'm such a standup type of guy. I'll have to check the nutrition info next time I'm in the store.

thats the best part of the foreman grill....those little grill marks. The psuedo bbq look goes a long way in meal presentation.

If you marinate before you cook, the grill marks come out even better. sometimes i go for the waffle pattern, but thatr is not something for beginners.

lol, so true.

:bright: :bright:

I'll have to try that, although I'm not sure if I've progressed past intermediate level with that formidable kitchen appliance we so mundanely call the George Foreman Fat Reducing Grilling Machine.

Those sound wonderful right about now!

Sailing pal of mine soaks those in beer or Jack D. before he BBQ's them.

That does sound good but I'd rather have the regular kind if the Turkey ones are not much leaner.

I'm going to check up on this and post the info. when I find out for sure.

when you are ready to run with the big dogs lemme know, and I'll teach you some of my favorite grill mark patterns. You'll have to upgrade to the GF Family size griller though. That thing is a lot of grilling machine.

Right on.

;)

I was in the store yesterday-

One regular Johnsonville brat had 25 gms of fat and 14 gms of protein. One turkey brat had 9 gms of fat and 18 gms of protein. That's quite a difference. I still wouldn't eat the turkey brats if I were dieting down, but for maintaining I don't have a problem with occasionally grubbing on a few.:)

well done casavant! I don't know what I was looking at. maybe it was the turkey keobasa. Was the serving size the same?

Yeah, they were both bratwurst-sized. Any weight difference would have been insignificant.

The turkey brats weren't Johnsonville. I'm sure fat and protein content would vary slightly from brand to brand, but the difference wouldn't be very great.

These are my fav.. CHEESE, mmmmm

Do you prefer mustard on your bratwursts? I like the spicy brown kind, although it's better on real brats then the turkey variety.

Looks like I'll be stocking up on some turkey brats. :D Do they make you tired (from the tryptophane)? Maybe I'll only have them for dinner.

Oh, and I like mine either just plain or with ketchup.

I usually just have them for dinner, and I'm tired around that time anyway. In fact, I'm tired a lot of the time regardless. LOL. I doubt they would have energizing effects, to be sure.

With ketchup????:bawling: :bawling:

That is so wrong.:(

unless you come as desert. :p :p :p

Brown Mustard only.... FRIED Onions if you got um..

I love the way the Cheese kinda sweats out of the skin to let you know they are done...

The first few years of marriage I heard all the comments about Ketchup on my food from my wife.

Then It slowed down as she gave up.

Along comes a Daughter and guess what ?

She is 10 and about a year ago she gave up again as both of us like Ketchup..

But not on Sausage, hon........

Although a Hotdog is technically a type of Sausage, it's not the same. OK ?

casavant there is a new thread in your name!!!!

Cool! I just checked it out. Thanks for the karma too!!:)

I love fried onions. I'm going to have to try that. In fact, I've got a big red onion at home that I need to use up and a new thing of Italian turkey brats. Yummy.:p

Heres what you do..

Take that Onion and also get a Green Bell Pepper.
Cut them both up and put um in a fry pan with some oil or whatever you want (Butter?)
Fry um up till the pepper and onions turn kinda Clearish (20 Min)
Put your Brat either on the grill or better yet right on top of the Fried Onions in the Pan..

Cook up both up till the brat is done.
Put it all on a Hoagie bun with a bit of mustard or (for pixie) Ketchup.

damn good !

LOL. True to my word, I did this as soon as I walked into my apartment after work on Friday. It was very yummy; I ate two of 'em. Thumbs up on the brats with fried onion and bell peppers.

had some turkey sausage and it was awesome.

here's another way to cook turkey brats. Get a huge metal pot and fill it full of cheap beer (6 pack) and cut up an onion and throw it in. Boil em for about 20 to 30 minutes and throw em on a grill. Yum!

Cool. I'll bet that would give you some killer farts. I love stinking up the library!!!

Maybe you could bottle the Beer broth and sell it. "Bratwurst and Onion Flavored Beer". Hmmmm...

I'm glad you liked them Cas.....
Now you don't feel as guilty eating them because with the Onions and Peppers, you are eating your Veggies like mamma told ya too.

I had 2 yesterday with grilled onions and peppers, and some mustard.:p :p

sorry polar, just couldn't bring myself to use ketchup. :D

I think I'm going to make a sandwich by thins slicing some turkey brats, putting them on toasted bread with some melted cheddar or swiss, tomatoe, lettuce, and grilled onion/bell pepper. I might do that one tonight. It sounds good.:D

No, I'm not going to let this thread go for a while. LOL

Turkey brats, I love the taste
Turkey brats with a lovely beer baste
