Tummy Tucks?

KK2005

New member
Has anyone here ever had a tummy tuck?
I recently lost 80 lbs and now I have problems left over because of it. I think that a tummy tuck would be the only way to resolve it and I would like to try to get my insurance to pay for some....anyone ever go threw this before?

Yes, loose skin can be a bother. Getting rid of it has been emotionally rewarding. You can listen to the emotion behind the words about such issues here where I have posted audio files of patients experiences with tummy tuck abdominoplasty. Many comment that they really like not having to rearrange the fold of flesh in their pants/skirt as they sit / stand. You can find a number of patients discussing their experiences with tummy tuck surgery here.

Loose skin and fascia are common problems with massive weight loss. Losing weight gradually tends to permit a better adjustment. Younger skin tends to shrink better than older skin. Skin and tissues stretched too far tend to have stretch marks (broken connective tissue). I have seen many patients over many years after massive weight loss. The one thing they all had in common, they all said they felt Much Better at their lower weight. At a reasonable weight, there is just less stress on the ankles, knees, hips, heart, and body in general. Wearing weight gets harder to do as we age. Talk to any older overweight person.

Hope this helps,

The family who live near me are good nightbours and friends of mine. Well, my neighbours wife had a tummy tuck and it has done the world of good for her confidence. She says she has never felt as good about herself before ever. As I've always said about plastic surgery - If something is bothering you to the extent that its affecting your life, then why not do something about it?

KK you will have to call your insurance to double check. I know on our policy there have been a few ladies that have had the procedure done, but they also had gastric bypass so it was covered since it was linked to that.

I think more and more providers are becoming progressive with benefits for these types but you will have to check into make sure.

I had a foot of loose skin removed from my abdomen after I had had several pregnancies back2back. I trained hard and only weighed about 104# (I am 5'3") but the skin would hang and the split in my abs was awful.

Lipo is commonly done during this procedure but I had none as it was not necessary. I only needed to have my abs sutured and all that godawful loose skin removed.

The results were immediate and AMAZING! Can't imagine my life without having had it done.

However, totally NOT covered by insurance. By far, some of the best money I ever spent.

I lost 90lbs and that loose skin kills me!!! I have an appt next month to see what the cost may be for a tummy tuck...hopefully I can get it!!

Congratulations on the weight loss! Yes, the loose skin can be an issue. To reinforce my point, what weight feels more comfortable wearing, the extra 90 pounds or what you have now?

Other important factors to consider about loose tissues include:
  • Over how long a time did you lose your weight?
  • How well did your skin shrink?
  • Has the shrinking stabilized?

Hope this helps,

Whats the costs associted like? Whats the risks?
Cost of tummy tuck depends on the problem to be treated, can vary around the country, and from doctor to doctor. Here is an introduction to the risks of tummy tuck. However, there is much more to learn about risks, benefits, and different aspects of this operation that we help our patients explore during a consultation after better understanding the needs of that particular patient.

Ok I know that a tummy tuck would help my self esteem immensely
but i also have Crohns disease, would that hinder my getting a tummy tuck? I have lost 80 lbs also and i want to do that , if not now, someday, but i am afraid to inflame the crohns disease.

After massive weight loss there can be folds of tissue that just do not look good. Medications and prior surgical interventions can be concerns with Crohn's Disease patients. Each patient must be individually evaluated. Such issues are best explored during a consultation or Preliminary Remote Discussion

Sorry, I totally forgot about this.

I had it done 8 years ago and it cost about 7/8K USD. I was on the beach w/in 2 weeks. I couldnt lift my own baby (she was abou 8 months old at the time) for like a month. I wasn't allowed to go back into the gym for like 2 months (I believe). I had it done so long ago, I honestly cant remember.

But the results were IMMEDIATE!

It hurt like a bitch.... but so?

Make sure you have a very competent doc. I have seen some totally botched surgeries that left some ugly scars.

My doc is the best! I WUV HER!

Wife had this done.
Cost was five thousand.
It was out-patient surgery that lasted 2-3 hours with 1 hour recovery.
Pain was not that bad ... most intense first two days.
There are two drains that have to be changed every 3-4 hours.
Up and walking the 3rd day. In bed the first two. One month to do sit ups.
Result? Ab area is tight as the top of a drum. New navel is perfect inny.
Very faint happy face scar, low and about 7 " long.
Also ... excellent support for internal organs.

Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty is sculpture and picking the right surgeon can be important.

Comfort after Tummy Tuck depends on the original problem, surgical technique, skill of your surgeon, how you heal, and other factors. I prefer techniques that tend to be much more comfortable for the patient and you can read many patient's experiences on that prior link. You can also listen to patient experiences about comfort after tummy tuck here. This audio file format permits the emotion of the patients' words to be heard.
