Treating Heat Stroke

theoak01

New member
I have been out in the sun so damn much lately with rugby and such, and Ive been drinking shit loads of water but I think I have heat stroke

how do you treat this

First off, if you in fact had heat stroke, which I am not saying you don't...Chances are you wouldn't be posting, but laying somewhere tits up blowing snot bubbles....heh heh heh

Most likely you are in fact having a bit of heat exhaustion....Cool clammy skin, chilly, goose pimples, hot, muscle fatigue and or cramps..etc.

Heat Stroke is SERIOUS and life threating...Hot, red dry skin, may or may not be coherent, skin will even be hot to the touch...For this, you transport to the ER quickly...IV's will be induced, and they will check body temp, and probally keep you in intensive care overnight and through the next day....

Heat exhaustion...Loosen clothing, place in the shade, give sips of water, take a cool cloth and wipe the head to help lower body temp. and I would have them taken to the ER just to be sure....

Comming from the Ranger's and having a secondary MOS as a Medic, I have been on far too many tank trail death marches in the mid July Georgia sun....Seen it all to often my amn...

Take Care and good luck....

Make sure you are replenishing your electrolytes if you're out in the heat and sun. Most of the popular sport drinks will do that for ya.

Also, you're not having heat stroke if you're posting on EF C&C.

Heat exhaustion (as Ranger kindly pointed out) is what you are suffering from.

Remember to hydrate yourself constantly, this is just as important when you're NOT outside. If you create a water deficit in your body, the chances that you may pass out and/or actually have a heat stroke could very well happen.

While outside, take any chance you can to get in the shade and run water over your wrists and especially your neck/head. The majority of heat dissapation in the body goes out your mellon (head).

then it must have been exhaustion,I got them confused,I drank a ton of gatorade and seem to be better today but I plan to stay out of the sun for a few days

thanks guys

The best advice I can give to those who know they will be in the heat all day...Hysrate as much as possible the day and night before...If you start to get heat exhaustion, by then it's pretty much to late...Take breaks, and keep pumping fluids into the system as the day wears on...Little sump'in I picked up the hard way from stacking hay in the loft....For those that have never done this...It is pure joy....<wink>

Crawl into a nice warm room.
Eat lots of silica gel, make sure to wash it back with beer.
And eat a large salt lick.
