training in a.m - what to eat ?

HEY Ive just changed my training times and am now training at 6.00 a.m Im getting up at 5.00 a.m and want to no what is good and easy to eat before going to the gym.
Just don't like working out with a empty stomach.
Cheers.

Depends on what you can handle....

Pre-workout meals aren't too flexible. I take in (currently) 1,200 calories pre and post-workout. I get up early enough to eat 16.5 ounces of cooked pasta, a protien shake, and a cup of yogert. By time I get to the gym, it's had time to digest, and I'm okay to workout.

If I was more in a rush, I'd probably have a straight protien shake because liquids are easier on my stomach, and I could workout sooner without worrying about getting ill or stomach aches.

Your best bet is to stick with foods you know digest easy for you.

Great options i think would be:
Some WHEY protein (as for breakfast i would say some also 6 to 8 egg whites but i am not sure about the quickness of digestion of eggs, but i would say still a good choice)
+
some oatmeal ( you could eat some oatbran or try the uncle sam cereal that nclifter6feet6 talks in other thread, basicly some low GI carbs)
+
i think you could add a spoon of flax seed oil to all this.

If you didn't workout i would substitute Whey by a slower protein...like some cottage cheese (or casein). With Whey i would mix some flax seed oil.

By the way: are you cutting or bulking?

Hey thanks guy's, what im currently doing is having Whey protein shake with flax, as soon as i get up, followed by a cup of green tea, would some fruit be ok to eat here as well, i do this about 5:15 am and get to the gym at 6:00.
After workout about 7.00 - 7.15 have another shake in Orange juice and a banana.
What do you guy's think, any other ideas.
im also bulking at present.

That looks good! IMO, i wouldn't go with orange juice, unless it's naturally squeezed. I would just get an orange. But still looks good. For bulking i would also take another shake 1hr after that last one. That's all i could think of. At least this is what has worked for me. Any other suggestions?

Ya... fruit is good... apples, Bananas, etc...

Yes that is an excellent way of doing it. Protein and flax are a good combo, just do not mix any carbs with it. I either go fat and protein or carbs and protein. Try to never mix fat carb and protein in one meal, this is the fast track to getting fat.

Cheers for the replies guy's,
usually an hour after my second shake i have a couple of egg sandwiches, then an hour later i have tuna and rice, from then on for the rest of the day ieat every 2.5 hours.

no protein, carbs and fats in the same meal ? what kind of garbage is that to tell someone, this is the year 2002. there is certainly nothing wrong with eating some of each at a meal. to create meals that are truely glycemically acceptable all three must be consumed. however I would consume fats first, then carbs followed by proteins.

for the am I would keep it short and simple. whey and some simple sugars. serum glucose will be low so your body needs some sugars that are metabolized quickly. the onset of exercise will blunt any insulin secretion from high GI sugars. eating low GI or slow buring carbs is pointless, it takes oatmeal 90 minutes to be digested. the whey will supply skeletal muscles with BCAA's for energy and to help fight catabolism

Thanks for the reminder there, sizzle chest.

What does glycemically acceptable mean? Acceptable to whom? Would this not be dependant on the individual's insulin sensitivity? And if the individual is very insulin insensitive and has large spurts of insulin released following all carb meals, whether they are of low or high glycemic value, the consumption of fats with meals like that will lead to an enviroment in their body, which will favor fat storage. In other words it's a express ride to the fat farm. Do a search on this topic and you may find your previous comment stupid.

Yes it is 2002 and perhaps you should update yourself on the latest info on dieting and partitioning nutrients. Best use the serch features for this one as i do not have the patience to write a 10,000 word explanation on the science behind my suggestion. I am sure you know better.

But i can suggest this, next time you read something that strikes you as very different from what you are used to, try to keep the sarcasm to yourself and try to debate like an adult.
