does anybody agree that maintence calories are generally set to high.Im 215 5'10 i still need to loose 20-30 lbs but according to the charts my maintence should be around 2800-3000+.Now ive lost 45 lbs on the atkins diet eating around 1500 per day and still kept most of the muscle i had.If i were to eat 2800-3000 calories per day id gain some serious fat i know becaouse ive done it any body agree that maintence calories are set way to high in some charts???????
 
Personally, I think they're too low, but that really depends on your metabolism, level of activity, whether you sit behind a desk for 9 hours a day, etc. You need to follow your own body. How long were you on the Atkins.
 
It definitely depends upon the person. If I ate 3000 calories a day at my 5'10" 165lbs, I'd be so shreaded and weak that it would be ridiculous. My maintenance is ~3500 and I'm not eating much more than that now while staying pretty lean (probaby should be eating more too). You have to experiment to find what is right for you.

i agree with both of you..i am 146 pounds and i have the fastest metabolism you could imagine, i am eating 3600 caloried a day right now and not loosing or gaining, therefor i am i going to bump it up to 4000 a day soon
