top ten mistakes while working out (according to msn)

JERKING WHILE LIFTING WEIGHTS
Anytime you lift weights, always do so with proper posture and slow controlled movements. Jerking the weights is a sign of improper posture and too heavy a weight choice. Practice proper posture and the rest will fall into place. It is not about the number of pounds you lift, but how you lift it.

AHHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHHAHHHHAHAHHAHH WHAT THE FUCK AHHAHAHAHAHHH

I think any talk of "not working out too hard" should be avoided when addressing the ignorant masses. If you tell them to totally bust ass, they just might get in a workout with half decent intensity.

I find the whole article to be right on. Quite refresing from all the bullshit you hear from so many so called experts.

Yeah, some of those are precursored with "for a beginner."

They need to say, "The first and most important tip is to take some fucking initiative and stop getting your pointers from "Body by Jake". Go get some real info, you pussies. Otherwise, don't waste your time you fat slob."

LOL. I'm in rare form today. Damn, I'm glad it's time to go home.

I remember reading somewhere that while warming up is important before lifting, stretching is a bad idea, that you should never lift on a stretched muscle. Anyone know more about this?

10 minutes on the bike, then stretch for another 10 minutes and then a couple of light sets and then get into it. i do this for my legs and i don't get as sore as much.

I saw a homo at my gym today doing concentration curls with a 3 lbs women's dumbell. Geez no wonder a lot of guys are such pussies. I really need to start stretching more though as I know a lot of guys really neglect that part of being healthy.

I think you guys are being totally unfair. A lot of thought went into that article and we...uh they did the best they could to try to apply to the general population at large.

I'd like to see you guys do better!

1. Lift hard
2. Intensity
3. Stretch
4. Keep it short
5. No bullshitting
6. Drink water
7. Carbs and protein post workout
8. Use good form
9. Use free weights
10. Don't fucking talk to me when I am training bitch!

There that wasn't to hard if you ask me.

I think it's great information.. :)

I was always taught warming up the muscles before
any ballistic stretches.

Thanks ttlpkg

Can you remember a newbie that had any idea what they were doing? Most people have no fucking idea of what weight lifting entails, much less all out body building or powerlifting.

for me I always forget what my mom used to always say - "Lift with your legs, not your penis."

(this was for a member of this board that I don't think comes here anymore... goes out to my homies in cell block 6)

Here is my list of common mistakes I see at the gym:

Stopping on the treadmill, while it is still on (usually to pick up a fallen cd player or something). Although, I must admit, it is rather fun watching them go flying.

Not using collars when you don't have the most steady of lifting techniques. I see kids who can't keep a bar straight, bench without collars all the time. Again, its amusing watching the weight slide off.

Not paying attention on a spot. I once saw a guy actually walk away from the girl he was spotting to go and talk with someone. Luckily I was close enough to go and help her when she got stuck.

Old dudes who hang around in the locker room for hours on end, scratching their balls, while completely stark naked. That is just wrong.

Not wiping down the equipment after putting your greasy head all over it. I hate having to wipe up another person's mess.

Not re-racking the weight. Probably the most annoying thing you can do in the gym. No one likes to go hunting for a stray dumbell, or stripping a leg press machine that is fucking loaded to the max.

Lifting like a pansy. I'm talking about the people who look at you weird when you deadlift more then 50 lbs.
