Too much protein

New Jack

New member
I heard that it's possible that your body can only consume and digest so much protein at one time. I heard if you take more than 70 g of protein in a sitdown the excess just goes to waste. Is that true?

i dont know. i'm sure it's relative to the person. many variables involved.

i never eat much more than that, unless it's a wild crazy steak binge all-nighter. that happens once in a while

it is true that your body can only digest som much protein per meal. The amount is speculated to be from 30-80g, I am not really sure for myself. I know that I get at least 30-40 a meal though...

I know the body can only digest sooooo much of ANYTHING at a time... but you have to keep things in perspective...

If you are training like a muther... your body will be able to digest alot more protein than 50grams... I mean, you hear stories about guys that eat 600grams/protein... and they eat 6 times a day... now... that's 100grams a sitting... they grow and appear to use it all...

Now, I'm no scientist, although I do quote science... but through my common sense, I'm guessing that if you body needed it, the value would increase...

However, I feel that there is, at some point, too much... of course.

I remember studying this in college during my free time @ GNC and in my room. Any more than 53 grams of protein ingested @ one time will result in our fat depositories. The information could be under protest now due to the fact that;
(1) Each of us are aesthetically different.
(2) Science has evolved since 2000.

i'd say everyone varies

depending on metabolism and other genetic factors

but i think that ~50g is a good rule of thumb

It doesn't go to waste, per se. ;)

Extra Protein gets converted into glucose. This method is a very inefficient process, and alot of energy is lost. (very thermogenic) However, I wouldn't consider this the same thing as saying it is wasted, because at least 75% of the protein is converted into glucose.

You can take several enzymes and other things to aid in the digestion of protein. One of the more popular things around here is ginger root. I take 1g before each meal. It also keeps you from dropping ass so much from lots of protein.

im gonna need some ginger root! lol, seriously. i have the WORST protein bombs. my stomach problems mixed with constant indigestion and a high-protein diet = watch out!
