Too much protein make you FAT???

thelegacy

New member
im asking this cuz im trying to cut and im a lot of protein and i heard too much can actually add fat--not really talking about calories just protein

Well protein has calories (4calories per gram), so if you were to eat 1000g of protein then that's 4000 calories right there. I doubt anyone is getting in 1k g protein, so i'd just worry about my total caloric intake and eat at least 1Xbodyweight in protein. A lot of people like eating more protein, but I think a lot of that gets wasted as the body can't use all of it. IMO anyways.

It also depends on the type of protein you're consuming. Whey will convert to glucose much more readily than other forms of protein. That will also increase insulin, which will increase your chances of adding fat. You need a reasonable macronutrient ratio to keep your metabolism in full gear, so chances are if you're consuming super high amounts of protein, you're skimping on necessary fat. This wouldn't hold up if you were on some sort of keto diet though, then tons of protein would be acceptable.

protein in excess for a given meal, will result in higher insulin levels, especially whey and other fast acting sources

Protein is very thermogenic. It is difficult for your body to turn protein into bodyfat. Your body stores carbs and fats much more easily. I would rather error on the side of too much protein than not enough. That being said, total caloried are what you need to worry about in the grand scheme of things. Good luck!

wow lots of different responses. i would go with what albino said. i've read that your body can only absorb x amount of protein per meal and any excess gets stored as bodyfat. i dont believe that though. count your cals and you'll be fine

if you eat too much of anything you will get fat. Its not what u eat alot of times its how much you eat. You can eat junk food but if you eat very little you wont put on alot of fat.

Yep. So in conclusion everything on the planet fat, carbs AND protein can make you fat. So what to do? Eat nothing! :)

Only, if you eat more than your body needs.

Your body can convert carbs, fat, and protein into ATP (the bodies energy source) and when your body has more than it needs it will store it as fat - so that you can survice when food is scarce.

never thought about it that way--being thermogenic

bro..you want a nice way to get protein intake in your body without added calories and fat and carbs?...isopure...200 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs. doens't taste all that bad..but if your not worried about calories, then honestly, there is a balance that nobody knows for sure when your body turns protein into fat, or when your body doesn't use all the protein it needs. BUt if your consenred with getting big, then its better to get all the protein your body needs, and loose some that it doesn't use, than to not give your body all the protein it needs....and lack potential gains...

then agian, i saw a pic of a huge mass monster who was ripped and had no fat, and his diet consisted of pastries, candy, and potatoe chips, pizza...and large doses of juice...but not everyone has those genetics.

ISOPURE--thats the only protein i use--i love it except for the craps it gives me---theres a place where i live that sells a huge jug at discount store for only $28--i remeber seeing it at Bally's for $50

.

It only takes 100 grams of protein to create a lb of muscle, people just over do the protein thing. Thanks mainly to the muscle mags.

You know, there is a lot of clueless shit that gets posted on nutrition here sometimes,(usually by NClifter) but, this one may just be the most ridiculous thing I've seen. So, all I have to do is eat my standard 250g protein/day, and I'll gain 2.5 lb muscle a day. lol. I have an idea, go do your 9th grade math homework, b/c not only is your number of grams WAY off, but, do you realize that only adds up to 400 calories. Do you know how many it takes to = a pound? I'm not going to tell you, you really need to do some research and stop spouting off things you heard Billy Bob at the YMCA saying.
