Too much Fish Oil / Flax ?

gmanlax7

i take the Dale Alexander brand fish oil gel caps, usually about 6 a day, then between 2-4 flax seed oil gel caps. Is this enough, and can you take TOO MUCH of these ? what would happen ?

just kidding bud, I don't think much will happen to you, you may put on extra weight if taking too much. Your amounts sounds perfect to me. I have wondered too- how much exactly to take? I heard 6 grams of fish oil, but don't know how much flax or if you need it at all. Fish may be enough, but let's hope someone more knowledeable joins in.:D

flax does lubricate the gut so it may speed up luminal transit times :)

in high quantities i think its can block absorbtion of the other omega fatty acids, so it may not be ideal to take too much of it

also fish oils and flax are both high in omega three's but not very in omega 6. personally i use fish oil and hemp (hemp is much higher in omega 6 oils)

its possible you may get acid reflux from all that oil, but im not sure about that one.

and i have no idea about weight gain but presumably once you stat having too much fat you will gain weight. again not too sure about that

This adds up to around 15 (I'm overstating) g of healthy fats a day. Which is nothing. A healthy individual should consume 1 tbsp. of a Omega3/6/9 fat mixture--3 times a day. At 14.5 g fat per tbsp. x 3 a day= around 45 g of fat which equals to about 45 pills (gellcaps)

That's alot of friggin fat, better eat clean with those doses. [/B]

Actually, on a healthy diet, 45g is NOT a lot...45g fat x 9cal/g = 405 calories from fat, which is not much considering that the average 200lbs. person needs 2400 for their BMR (weight x 12)

DON'T BE AFRAID OF HEALTHY FATS

but once you add in the other fat from the rest of your diet that can quickly reach high digit's

I think he meant he's taking fish oil for the O3's and Hemp for the O6's

yup thats what i meant i wan2bsolid :)

hemp has omega 3 as well but has more 6 than 3 and gamma linoic acid

i take 2 tbs hemp each day + 2 fish oil caps and its fine, im not piling on weight like crazy, i just eat relativly clean

i think flaxseed oil and fatty fish increase testosterone and sexdrive and skin complexion and help with strength. i get most of my fish fats from large peices of catfish

I used to take 2-3 tbsp of Udo's blend oil/ED, but now I just take in about 1Tbsp. Just felt there was no need for excess amount when your getting other fats from your diet?

it depends on what type of fats your talking about

saturated fats aren;t all that good

essential fatty acids etc (good fats) are great if you;ve worked them into your diet, but dont forget theycan get destroyed by heat, or at least reduced in no. so cooking might do it

what foods are you eating to get the fats? are they good fats?

I try to only eat Poly, Mono's, and Essential's, sometime eat a steak- which has alot of saturated, but mostly my diet's clean of it. I know that essential's are good for you, but I'm just saying you don't need excessive amounts of them...remmeber what you don't use get's stored, you don't just piss it out.

this is true

you've just gotta find a balance between whats too much and what isnt

on the mass quantities site i remeber it said 1 tblespoon flax per 75lbs. not sure if this is still there, but i go by this and it works for me :)

sounds like your diets good though. im consideing switching from semi skimmed milk to fully skimmed (0.1%fat) as im getting pretty much all my saturated fat from the litre of milk i drink :(

I stick to Fat free milk, taste just as good to me. Ive been drinking it for so long if you give me 2% or whole milk, its way too rich and makes me gag, tastes like cream. All types have the same protein content too which i good. BTW i eat 2 Tbspoons of flax seed with my cottage cheese as last meal, do i need to grind it or is it digesting fine?

im not sure

gvne its a seed im guessing your bosy wouldnt digest it very well so chewing it or grinding it probably wouldnt hurt.

might be worth posting it on a separate thread to hear what others think

gross why don't you use something else that at least taste good with your cottage cheese? If you need some recipe's I'll hook you up...cause that sounds like sheot.

I was using borleans flax but I switched to thier Omega twin because it contains 3's and 6's along with 9's.

This may sound stupid...but how does olive oil compare to flax? Is it worth it to buy the flax, or will olive oil suffice?

Flax is superior, not sure why but ive read it all around. If your gonna use olive oil, just use natural peanut butter, tastier, easier to eat and good fat equivalent.

In regards to the cottage cheese, i love the shit plain, i never used to but i have developed an addiction. Ive tried mixing in protein powder or tuna just for an extra protein kick, but this sucks compared to straight outta the tub. THe flax seed adds a good crunchy flavor to it, doesnt taste half bad, nothing like the gag reflex flavored oil. lemme know what you like to do with your cottage though bro

cottage cheese and Splenda with Peanut butter is the kick I'm on right now... since I'm trying not to eat carbs at night...even though the carbs that are in cottage cheese all sugar:rolleyes: . I hat that, they have to fucking put sugar in everything don't they. Cottage cheese with peanut, raisens, and cereal mixed in is good, I use fiber 1 since it's healthy for you. cottage cheese alone and Splenda is great. I haven't tried Cottage cheese and Flax oil...yet, I love it in my shakes, but I don't know about in my cottage cheese...but who know's the other night I ate 10 egg whites, cottage cheese, Peanut butter, and Splenda all mixed together...and it was killer.

Bro - Peanut butter has alot of sugar in it too!

There are many diferent "Nutrition Facts" on the various "brands" of PB. Thanks for you info. I eat all natural PB. Less sugar, no partially hydrogenated oil, no trans fatty acids.

I don't eat the PB for the Protein, I eat it for the good fats in it...

i buy the NPB that lists peanuts as the only ingredient, no need for the extra salt. I probably get too much fats, i can eat peanuts in school till my stomach kills
