Tongue tied!! ~surgery~??

Hey I am pretty tongue tied...I can't touch the roof of my mouth with my tongue and cannot even stick my tongue out. I showed my dentist it and he said I should I should have it clipped (the skin that holds it to the floor of your mouth). He was suprised that I had never had any troubles eating and such...(stupid doctors are supposed to do this after birth right or sometime right?). Anyhow I went to the dental surgeon that was in the same building and he said he didnt want to do it...wtf??? What should I do??? Can i buy some gauze and clip the thing myself? Will I hit nerves and paralyze myself or something if I do this?? Any advice appreciated.

My niece is like that. No big deal unless it causes problems with eating or other things. Does limit some "licking" ability I am sure. If you feel you must, or the Doctor really thinks it is necessary go for it. But, you survived this long, why fix it now?

So, when you stick your tongue out, it nose dives over your bottom lip, Right? that is what my niece has. Kind of amusing when she gets pissed at me.

I wonder if you can go to a different type of surgeon and not a dental one since your problem really doesn't deal with your teeth. Maybe an ear, nose and throat doctor deals with stuff like that. Definately DO NOT clip it yourself (I hope you were joking about that part ).

Yeah I wasn't joking about clipping it myself and yes it does inhibit my "Licking" abilities... Thanks for the input both of you

damn i bet you have a little trouble keeping yourself from biting it when it is done. your tongue that is.

i would not do it myslef lots of veins in there.

Amateur bathroom surgery = job security for paramedics like me.

Don't be a fool. Just find a different doc that'll do it.

There can also be difficulty in social and recreational functions like "French" kissing, licking an ice cream cone, or catching snowflakes on one's tongue.

I went to an oral surgeon to get mine done. I got anesthetized for it although it's probably not necessary. My son got it done at one month old and the doctor did it in 5 minutes while he was awake. I would not recommend doing it by yourself though.

And I think it's called "binding frenulum"

so was it strange after the sugery? did your tongue get sore? from having more movment?
