Told off a homeless guy this morning

I've been in a bad mood this week, normally I would never say anything. This morning I'm stepping over the homeless people here in midtown (they are everywhere) and of course I was by myself, the guy asked me for change and I ignored him like I always do. So as I'm walking past I get about ten feet away and I hear a really sarcastic and loud "thanks asshole!" from behind me.

So I turn around because it really pissed me off that this homeless loser was yelling at me for not giving him a quarter. I told him that I actually work for my change instead of sitting on my ass on a street corner, and I've had hard times before but if he actually wanted to he'd be trying to make a life for himself, not sitting on his ass begging. I told him if he was selling those papers at least he would be trying to do something (I always give those guys change because at least they are working somehow) and that I have two jobs and I go to school so what's his problem getting one. He called me every name in the book at the top of his lungs of course.

I don't care about seeing homeless people but it really pisses me off that they blame others for their situation when 95% of the time they only have themselves to blame.

When I was a kid, same happened to me and my dad while going to the grocery store. Same scenario except my crazy dad gave the guy the beating of his life in front of me and a cheering crowd.

Good. However nowadays with all the PC people and pu$$ies your dad would be locked up and also sued.

I hate modern times.

I like your idea. They'd have to work and actually do something cause no one would give them money.

actually in Africa;

1. They talk in billion of dollars in aid, not in change.
2. Its not cold.
3. They can get their way... with the animals.

I would have wanted to say also that sick and retarded people should all be send to Africa too, but that would be bit cruel.

A shelter for homeless.

given the fact that a person is sleeping outside in the elements, covered in newspaper, on the concrete or asphalt (my fav-different subject tho)- and actually having to "ask" for money, is enough for me to give him the change that makes an aggravating noise in my pockets....

in LA, they walk up to your car at stoplights and in between lanes to get to you....you cannot go anywhere down south in cali without being confronted by someone in need- homeless or displaced...alot of them are mentally ill and the state /federal bills have been cut...there is nowhere for them to go...a sad state of affairs really...but a sobering example of how fortunate we are to be able to sit here on a computer and talk to people from distant countries and states...while sipping coffee...

I FUCKING hate pan handlers - my standard response when they ask me for change is, "No thanks, I have plenty." That confuses the shit out of them as 90% of them are dumbfounded and don't say anything else. Occasionally they will try to make me understand they they want my change - by then I am usually far enough away. On a couple of occasions when I am going into the quicky-mart I will ask for a job application and give it to the guy on my way out - that REALLY pisses them off.

Forget that. I see a lot of homeless people out there that could choose to be in better places but they are either lazy, drug addicts or mental patients who don't want to take their meds. There are shelters for them to sleep in (I know conditions there are hard, but so what) and TONS of minimum wage jobs that need doing if they chose to work. I'd like to think if I was in the same situation I'd choose to take the $6 an hour job cleaning crap off of the freeway and actually try to get out of the situation. No sympathy here whatsoever.

In Cali you have thousands of migrant workers who will work illegally to get ahead and then you have a homeless drug addict who doesn't want to work.

sometimes its worth it to give up .25 or .50 instead of conducting a street interview to see if a person really deserves those damn quarters in your ashtray that are stuck together from fusion over the last 6 months...ya know?
i totally understand what youre saying...i agree with your POV. if i see someone who's clothes are rotting off and they havent had a clean shower, and matted hair or a meal- i dont mind giving them a buck or two...thats just me however. i get more pissed off at the ORGANIZATIONS that sit out in front of Blue Collar stores and ask for your money all the time...you never see those peeps in Beverly Hills or where there is tons of money floating around...its only in the blue collar areas.

I've known a coupla people who where next thing to homeless, so I know how easily it can happen. Especially as people get older & their jobs are eliminated.
I have a problem with the young people I see though, who don't wanna live at home, 'cause of the rules, yet they're perfectly healthy & willing to sit in a lawnchair at the side of the road with their 100 lb dog & ask for donations for food.

I once had a guy ask me, "hey lady, do you have any change."

I said, "why yes I do, thank you for asking about me" and walked off.

He had a very puzzled look on his face.

I used to train at a gym uptown Yorkville rich area. I train in the AM and PM and I seen the same homeless people everys single day and they always ask me on the way in and out of the gym in total that is 4 times a day. Where I live now is a good neighbourhood but more and more homeless people are hanging out by my subway stop.
I give if I trully see someone in need or find them inspiring. There is a native man that paints water colours in between bay and st george sation, he as a sign need money for art supplies. I always give him money his work is outstanding.

I give lots of moolah to the musicians who play for money on the corners. I LOVE them and wish they were everywhere.

there was a point in my life where i was looking for a shopping cart....it can happen very quickly- faster than you could even think about. i have an understanding....

there was a lady (Elderly-70+) who took me not long ago for 40.00. it was late at night- close to 1:00am- in the middle of a big storm, tons of rain etc etc...i went to a teller on the way home from work. she approached me and asked for money for a bus ticket to another state...she was neatly dressed and had luggage. she said she got stranded by a friend who was supposed to come and get her...she was near the bus terminal...i gave up 40.00. i saw her a week later at the market asking for money down the block from my bank...i got took. she was good at it tho- being a con.

I tell people I dont carry cash or change.

It's an archaic form of payment, I refuse to use it if I dont have to.

There's a guy around hgere who tells a sob story about his mother, stroke, no gas, cell phone dead, car broke down, solar eclipse, Bantha stampedes, tryptophan O.D., etc.
He took me for $7.00 once.

btw, you should head down to the financial district. we have an awesome pan-handler around here. i hope to give her a banana one day.

I lost it on a homeless guy once when my mom came out here to visit me. I met her at her hotel and we walked to the restaurant. On the way, these two bums with booze asked for money. We ignored them. We ate, were walking back, and the one said something I didn't catch. I looked at him and he said to the other one he'd fuck the shit out of my mom, loud enough for us both to hear, glaring at us. So I ran at him, kicked his head against the wall, kneed his face twice, and stomped on his hand that was holding his bottle. I was disappointed it didn't shatter in his hand, which was my goal. My mom screamed, we left, blah, blah.

it sucked because I had a cut on my knee from his tooth and I was afraid I got the HIV or hep or something. Came out clean though. Could have done without my mom seeing me lose my temper though. I felt like white trash.

lmao j/k jnevin

he was an investment banker at lehman brothers, working 14 hour days, working 100 days in a row, and some homeless guy asked him for change. he took him by the collar and started shaking him yelling about if they guy has any idea how hard he busts his ass for his money and why the hell would he give it away etc. I mean the guy has a temper but he was super stressed from work. he had like an instant nervous breakdown.

felt bad for the guy gave him a 10 spot after I got him to let go of the dude

lol correct. I for one couldn't live with myself if I ever had to beg for a handout like that from another person, especially who works for their money. I suppose a city wouldn't be complete without these types though. It's about time for a good cleaning though I'd say.
