That raised over 300K with internet donations and money gifts to get out of debt? She created a webpage and listed her 80K debt she owed, and asked for donations. She got over 300 thousand very quickly.

I am trying to think of her name and webpage as I have a tax debate going on right now... help me out.

No really.... there it was true. They featured her because she didn't have to pay taxes due to it being all gift money and donations.

I can't remember her name, some one else may recall it though.

the real kicker is that she was never in debt. but she says right on the site that you are just giving her money. so she isn't really scamming anything.

as for taxes - I know that there is the concept of "gifting" a certain amount, it used to max out at $10K a year, but has recently been upped to like $12K I think.
but I thought that was only family members - not sure that it applies to random internet people.
also though that the person getting the gift has to pay tax on it, but not the person "gifting"
(I put "gifting" in quotes b/c I think it looks silly, but that is how they refer to it)

Once, back in the day, I got on AOL, used one of those "progs" (AOL software manipulating programs which could do random stuff like "punt" people offline via Instant Messages, etc.) and collected TONS and TONS of screennames from Gay & Lesbian chat rooms.

I then opened a PO Box and then mass mailed all the gays or people pretending to be gay with some shit like "If you dont like the way gays & lesbians are being treated, send some $ to ___ to fight injustice" or something like that

what you are talking about is fraud and you get fucked if you get caught.
whereas, just saying "hey, I'm me, give me money" and getting money for it isn't illegal. you can't help it if people up and give you money just because you asked.
