tipping in general

why have we made tipping like a habit ?

I was at this restaurant and we got awful service and me and my buddies were calculating the tab and I my friends said "how much we leaving for the tip" ? I said "I am not leaving anything".......

they all looked at me like I was a freak or something !!!

I think we should tip if we get good service, everyone thinks tips are just "automatic" or the way it is..... screw that !!!

I am boycotting that from now on....... I only will reward good service

what are your thoughts ?

in the states YOU have too. And I think that is good. Cause waitresses depend on there tips. everyone has bad days.. Could you imagine being a waitress. I was one for 2 years and it isn't the best job.

Exactly. Tipping is based on service. I once gave the bus boy a tip over our waitress because all she did was take our order and that was the last time we saw her.

She even had the gall to come outside and state that it was customary to leave a tip.

Do you tip before or after sales tax?

We had horrible service last night and the bill was about $30.00. I left $1.50 tip. I hate lousy service. I usually tip 25-30% depending on the service but when it totally sucks I have a problem with leaving anything.

Some restuarants automatically charge you on the total sales after taxes which I think suck.

I understand that, but it's not my fault. They should get another job because if they give shitty service, they do not deserve a tip. I tip anyway because I'm a tool.

one time the service was so bad i left a dime, i think that said more than giving nothing since the jackass might of thought i just forgot if i didnt leave anything

that is exactly my point though daisyduke........ screw that "you have too" mentality !!! sick of that victim excuse the bitches use

If you have a off day, you are not going to get good tips that day !!!

I will not reward bad service anymore !!! If you do not like your job..... quit and find another job !!!

like im going to tip some bimbo who gave me crap service just because she has nice boobs and gives me fake smiles........ yah right

its supposed to be before taxes

oh no I totally understand all of your points... I was just saying it is a shitty job. But if you arent cut out for the work you should definatly get another job.
TRUE DAT!

5 bucks if it's under twenty dollars, 20 % if good and over 20 dollars, nothing for bad service if it's the wait persons fault. If cooks fault, server still gets decent tip

I always tip 10% because here in the US, it's figured-in as part of their pay. If service is good, I go 20% and if it's great, 30%.

It's an IRL karma thing... what goes around comes around. This may sound really sexist, but if a female is obviously overworked but busting her rear serving she's going to get 30%. It's my old, largely-repressed southern male thing...

I do! The bigger the boobs the bigger the tip. A smile and wink gets 50%....and yes, after taxes.

Some service is soooooooo bad that even I don't tip.

Takes really crap service to get me upset and leave nothing.

I avg 20% though. 30% if the service was exceptional.

i never get a tip:( i prob just suck at my job

sucker !!!
Yes but a happy sucker! Makes them happy too. I'll always make more money....but soon enough I'll be too old and fat to get their attention.

You have to keep in mind who you are tipping. My fiance is a waitress and she has been stiffed a tip, or left a shitty tip, because the food wasnt prepared right, or wasnt cooked right. Shes not the fucking cook. I have been at her restaurant and seen it, if something is wrong with the food then she will most of the time get a shitty tip. The other thing is when the manager comps a meal, drops the cost of the meal, because there was something wrong with it, they think everything is fucking free. Guess what, someone still took your order and brought you your food, that is the waiter's or waitress's job, he/she doesnt get paid by the hour most of the time, they make their money on tips. If the service from the waitress is shitty, then yes, it should reflect in the tip they are left, but always keep in mind who you are tipping and if they had control of the unhappy service you were provided.

I agree 100%.

I'm talking about what happened last night. Ordered hors d’oeuvres to start and when they come out, there is no plates or silverware. Glasses are not kept full. Asking for additional salad dressing and it comes too late or not at all. That is stuff that is controlled by her. The food was good but the service sucked.

Like I said, I am always a very generous tipper but when it is clearly her fault
then she isn't getting that. Maybe 5% at most if anything.

I agree with your situation, but no matter what I think something should be left. Tipping has become a big deal to me since Ive been with her, I never really put too much thought behind it. Sometimes she will call me when she is really pissed about a large party stiffing her with a very shitty tip or someone running out on a tip, I want to drive up there and beat there ass. She has followed people out to the parking lot and handed them their money back when they left her a shitty tip, talk about embarrasing someone, especially if they are out on a date.

I tip here because employees making tips have a different minimum wage rate (6.70$/hour instead of 7.45$/hour). Otherwise I wouldn't.

Simply have her pass out a picture of your avatar with the bill. You'll intimidate them into tipping well!

Thats a good idea, she can hand them out with the bill, with a little note saying "Thanks for leaving a good tip." :D
