Adagio for Strings from the Parade of Athletes Album.

Gross!!!!!

So Tiesto is the one responsible for that sonic abortion? I heard a piece of it when they were playing the BPM Channel on the XM Satellite Radio at the gym. What a travesty.

You should hear the real version of Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings" as played by a symphony orchestra, to truly appreciate my outrage over the techno adaptation.

I have Sam's album that plays Adagio by 14 different orchestras. There has been tons of Adagio techno remixes and I've probably listened to more of them than you and I have to say the song I mention on the parade of athletes album is the best. Are you sure you heard the same one?

Oh. I just heard a techno adaptation of the Adagio on BPM 'cause it was on at the gym, if there's more than one version then I have no idea whose it was.

Doesn't matter, though, that piece should be left alone. As a tone poem or short piece it's perfect as is.

I am under the impression that Barber's Adagio must be a rather easy piece to play, and the score must be quite explicit re: the composer's intentions, because I've heard several regional, school, and amateur orchestras play it beautifully without fucking up, and with very little variation.

someone send me an mp3 of this guy so I know what we are talking about

He´s the biggest DJ in the world. Hes kind of yesterday though. but nobody took over.

May have been the first and last big DJ.

In Holland he sold out a sports stadium with 40k people where everybody paid 100 bucks.

Big singles were

Flight 643 (The first and probably still the most typical and recognisable)
Traffic
Lethal Industry

He´s a real simple guy, not very smart, not very goodlooking, never had money before. He´s not throwing it all away, I think though. He´s pretty anonymous and doesn´t boast. How many solo artists sell 40 k tickets on a night at 100 bucks a pop though... Let alone ones that are ugly and like 21 yrs old.

He is a little.. commercial... but i like most of it.. saw him when he came to TO in the summer it was a good show :)

true. im not much of a fan

i do find it an amazing feat for a a scrawny simple ugly guy of no money to get so big at such a young age.

I think Joel Osteen is an idiot, but I´m baffled by his success and how many people he can draw. I watch that stuff just out of awe.

Fuck DJs, listen to some musicians playing musical instruments.

I really like trance.

I love live music but I love trance.

As a matter of fact, I feel like going to a rave right now.

It's not either or

SEe live there all all good

It's the crowd that makes them

Tiesto
Oak
Benassi

Shit there are more i never recall there names when i try too

I don't listen to the shit that you younger generation call music. Hardcore Rap is for uncivilized goons. ANyway, the word sounded like Fiesta, so I thought it might have something to do with a party.

This statement is baised. If a certain type of music cannot be percieved then you cannot just say "fuck it". I have done some work into creating "techno" music and its just as penetrating and eloquent as bach or beethovan. I am not saying everything techno is worth your time. Some of the songs are ridiculous. But when it comes to music, we are not given some magic wand to go around judge it as good or bad. We certainly have the ability to percieve the feelings potrayed by the creator of the music (DJ in this case) and notice the intricate details, so much that is taken for granted when we listen to say "techno", much of this depending on the experience throughout the individual's(listener's) life.

I primarily listen to classical music, nothing moves me like etudes of chopin or the guitar of Francisco Tarrega but even among them there are pieces of music i cannot comprehend and dislike. I will find a friend of mine greatly moved by the same piece.

My favourite Tiesto album is 'In my memory' and i really like all the songs in it, especially 'in my memory'.

How utterly arrogant, to assume that because I can't stand it, that I must not be able to comprehend it, as though comprehension would equal enjoyment. I can hear what all the parts of the music are doing, understand how they were created and modified, and how they interact and intertwine and develop over time to create the whole sonic landscape. I still think that 99% of the techno/house/trance/D&B/Jungle/electronica/whatever music I've heard is complete tripe that can only be enjoyed if you're rolling your ass off.

Maybe I just don't have the attention span to cope with the mind-numbing repetition, waiting for the next contrived subtle change. "Oh, now he's gonna run the whole mix through a bandpass filter and sweep through the frequencies, how original..." Most of the basic tracks these DJs use to build upon sound like bad theme music from a Czechoslovakian industrial film. And a DJ building up to a climax and then pumping the air with his fist is a laughable cliche.

I say it's spinach and to hell with it. Untz untz untz baby...

Comprehension of creativity leads for appreciation of any phenomena. Its human nature. It boils down to your definition of comprehension.

Comprehension of music in particular is proven to be a right brain function. Right brain is not governed by our created perimeters of reason and logic. Its more instinctive and senior to the logical left brain as in the evolutionary process. Even some animals comprehend and react to music the way we do, inspite the lack of ability to reason. Because of their dominant instinctive brain.

You also missed my point of appreciation of music based on experience in life. Experience is knowledge remember? Knowledge that is hard to communicate. Expressing experience is perhaps the most daunting task with music being a perfect tool to do so. That is because experience again, is a right brain function. In other words, the language of the right brain is hard to translate into the language of the left. And in this society we give advantage to a left leaning logical brain.

To conclude, you don't even have to have a reason to dislike Techno or any other kind of music. They exist because they strike as creative to your fellow human beings. No reason.

About repition. Day and night, seasons. feelings, eating, shitting, sleeping, waking, working and atleast a thousand more in our lives. Everything is subject to repetition in one way or another. There is not a single day in our lives when we wouldn't be required to go to sleep at night. Repition has become a need because that makes us feel certain. There is repitition in all sorts of music. I must agree that it is more apparent in some genres than in others but its there. The slight cranking of a knob causes a feeling of Eureka! No matter how simple it is, there is beauty in simplicity.

One can get old, and some genres will not fit their personality or lifestyle anymore, neither would they have the tolerence to ground shaking beats. That is a whole different story.

Are you guys insane? No seriously... are you guys insane? Obviously you're insane. Because in a thread asking whats Tiesto's best song, NOT ONE person mentioned fucking FLESH 2000, TIESTO REMIX. Oh ok.. fine, don't mention Flesh, then atleast someone mention VENUS (Meant to be your lover). KIDS!

Not you, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, your link just gave me a convenient place to make that point. Maybe not in this thread, but in most discussions of techno and dance music, someone invariably pops up and claims that Europeans are years "ahead" of Americans when it comes to musical taste and appreciation. I think that's rubbish.

I do too we both have crap that the other side would never buy into

like hoobastank and Insane clown posse

damn those guys suck hard. they never sold 10 records here.

Do you know Schnappi?

Mr. dB said:
Hell, I'd rather take a hot poker in the ear.
Schnappi is cute. it´s a very simple song sung by like a 3 yr old german kid about a little crocodile in Egypt who likes to bite stuff and its his favorite game. That´s pretty much it.

It made nr 1 in Germany, Holland, England, Belgium and who knows where else. Stayed nr1 for a while even and many spinoffs sold very well.

The kid and her aunt who wrote and recorded it have made tens of millions. It´s a 2.5 minute song, written in about 1 minute, recorded on a portable mp3 player with a keyboard playing a melody in the back.

The kid could choose never to work again because of it.

A lot of those "new" styles of "electronic" music have emerged from Europe while The US have been more into Rap
