thumb rings???

i have noticed many girls and a few guys wearing simple, plain silver rings on their thumbs.

why?

is this the latest fashion statement, or is there some other reason?

Last night I was with a girl that had one on, wasnt silver. I asked her about it and she gave it to me...but the thing barely fit on my ring finger. I guess its just another new spot to wear soemthing for those that dont want peircings all over.
