I am far from a neo-con......well maybe compared to you I might be considered conservative . I have to say I cannot stand the patriot act, it is a violation of civil liberties and will no doubt be (or has been) used for enforcement other than terrorism. But, if one had to look at the bright side it does allow the FBI-CIA to share info on persons that *might* be terrorist. It also give the FBI greater authority to investigate people that might try to do harm to a large number of people. The problem being that all their new power would not have stopped 9/11, and the government has proven time and time again it cannot be trusted this much power. *Secret* courts really do not fit into our system.
Are any of the major players running for the dem nomination talkiing about repealing it? If they are I have not heard it mentioned. You can blame Ashcroft all you want, but I do not remember a large out cry from liberals in congress when this was passed.
