I need help understanding what's wrong with my car, I have a pretty good idea, but I am in denial because I don't want it to be what I think... Can somebody give me a description of symptoms for a fucked up clutch?

YOU CAN USUALLY SMELL A BURNED OUT CLUTCH. CAN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR WHEN YOU PUSH IN THE CLUTCH PEDDLE OR DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE?

if you notice the clutch is slipping it could be because of 2 things (excessive wear) or (Glazed Clutch) excessive wear means you either can't drive or are beating on your clutch. if you slip the clutch really bad you might put a glaze on it. this is where you heat it up and it cools and hardens forming a glaze it will feel like the clutch is slipping but if you drive normal it will go away. also some clutches are auto adjusting (newer cars) then its hard to tell how the clutch is wearing. tell me what car it is and i can help better....sometimes the syncro meshes get fucked up and cause problrms.

If you notice that when you push on the gas while in a gear, and you don't have as much power as you remember having than that usually means that your clutch is slipping and will have to be replaced.

That is pretty much it. When I punch the gas, pass a certain point it feels and sounds the same as when you punch the gass on neutral, it doesn't pick up. Please tell me there could be another reason than clutch problems because its expensive as hell to replace a clutch.

if you hit the gas and the engine revs but your speed does not increase then your clutch is shot. Just look at your tach, if it revs up like your car is in neutral then it is going. It is not that expensive, you can get a clutch pack with the throw out bearing for around $200 or less and you can do it yourself unless you are not mechanically inclined.

there are some places that specialize in stuff like that. They are usually cheaper than going to a normal mechanic, or going to a dealership.

new clutch is $$$$$$$$ they have to drop out the tranny a lot of hours at 100 bucs an hour.....sorry bro

Fuck it. Whenever a car part wears out, that just means you should get a new car. So, go buy a new one, that would be a hell of a lot cheaper than fixing the clutch.

J/K Buck up for the cheddar and get it fixed man. Actually, go have someone that is qualified diagnose what is wrong and then get it fixed.

Why is it a joke? That is pretty much what I do. I buy cars really cheap in Miami, and then drive them for about a month or two here in Tallahassee, and then sell them at a slight profit. Beats shelling out hundreds of dollars on repairs. Seriously, unless you are REALLY attached to your car, sell it, and get another one. Keep doing it, and who knows, may be you will even start making $$$.
