How well are your countries covering Hurricane Katrina? Is it rarely mentioned or is it a big deal?

Just curious.

it's a very big deal in the UK, first item on the news everyday. alot of coverage all the time. both in the papers and on the tv.

Good deal. I was just wondering because the US covered recent happenings in other countries such as the Tsunami, the UK bombings and the Sudan Genocide. It's just interesting to know if other's are hearing about it or not.

It has been my experience that the UK is our friend and takes an interest in us. Sure, we may squabble, but when it counts, we are together. I'd expect them to cover NO and the hurricane with sympathy.

The rest of the world is indifferent, or hates us, or just picks and chooses what they like (ex: France; Japanese - Michael Jackson and fashions). I'd expect brief coverage with criticism.

We show them the same kind of treatment. The UK Bombings were covered very well, most programs were interrupted completely to cover it as it erupted.

Again, I just think it is so weird to hear about things that are going on in your country from other's in another country. I rarely hear of it.

big deal here, but the coverage is somewhat "selective"... i.e. not showing much of the looting and more of the innocent people

It's a huge deal here (Ontario), front page of the papers every day, all over the news, radio.

I am more astounded every day by the situation down there, 4 days and these people STILL haven't been given water?!!! They're dying of dehydration. WTF?! There is no excuse for that. We can land on the moon, but we can't figure out how to get these people some water. Appalling. It makes me cry.

Some coverage (as the Tsunami received) but gas price gets more coverage since it has a direct impact on people.
