This sucks (Work related)

So my department director came to me today and asked me to write up one of the guys that works for me part of the time. Now he deserves the write up, but I really like the guy and I know that this is the first step in the firing process. Just kind of ruins the ol' day.

Cheers,

I am suposed to do write ups at my job...actually I have been written up for not doing them enough :mix: feel for ya but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Yep, it sucks but my job is a little more important to me so I need to protect it.

are you allowed to tellhim you are writing him up?

I'd probably tell him up front once u have done it and warn him, but then again i dont understand the politics of the office so well.If its all anonymous then maybe it would be best to keep quiet, all depeds on how good a friend he is

it's definitely a tough position to be in my friend (speaking from experience,) but ultimately it is part of the responsibility that comes with being a manager/leader. as long as you are fair in your assessment and keep personal feelings aside from work, than you are doing the right thing!

Usually they call you into a meeting to let you know you have been written up. It's a little hard right now since he is on another job out of state.

Sorry to hear of your predicament...how about....write him up as instructed ....then in about a month write him a letter of recognition/commodation (if behavior has improved). In the formal letter indicate that his behavior has changed and commend him for his modifications. It will go along way to mending the friendship. It will also demonstrate your astute skills as a supervisor for ensuring that future such actions will not be tolerated and good behavior will be rewarded (good old Freud)!

Good luck!
