THe dogs are always getting my socks and taking them out in the yard and chewing them up. Last time it happened, I got very angry and spanked them and didn't let them come in the house for 2 days or so. I told my gf about it and she said from reading dog books, they did it because they love me and wanted to be close to me when I'm not here. Well, that made me feel like crap and I had to cry. Is this really true?

when i lived in colorado.....our labs used to take my shoes and socks and bury them in the snow. I would find a big pile of my shit after the snow melted. LOL! couple of shoes some socks and a pillow from my bed

I figured they were doing it because they don't like me.

1) you are an asshole for leaving them outside for 2 damn days
2) you did good by spankin it, even though they miss you they should know better than to eat your shit
3) for fucks sake another girl friend! Are you in love with her?
4)I have no idea if it is right or not

1) Some dogs never get to come inside. I did it as punishment. I can't afford to buy new socks every week.

2) Hi Angel!

Mine has never chewed or taken my things because I trained him not to. I was just lucky enough to have a job that I could spend my days with him and then my wife would get home and be with him at night. Anyhoo, he'll bury his nose in my slipper and just lay there or sometimes he'll just lay with my socks or tshirt under his head. I love it when he does it.

One bit of advice I can give all dog owners. If you have a dog that marks things, do not make a snowman in your back yard. It will be yellow on the whole bottom half, and by spring, you will have a burnt out spot 3' across in your yard.

Damnit.

3) No, but I like her a lot. We'll see how it goes. If this one doesn't work, I'm going the mail order bride route. LOL

2) Hi Angel!
HI!

No really they should not be left outside! And try not to hit them too often they may become bitter and angry. Do not hit them with newspaper or they will begin to eat the papers from now on.
I am not quite sure how you should go about it. Maybe try picking up your socks. Walmart often sells laundry baskets and also furniture stores sell dresser drawer sets.
Really tho maybe you can buy a few or spare a few pairs and get some spray that pet stores have. I think that might teach them to never eat them again. I forget the name of the spray but it is non toxic, just suposively tasted nasty. Some one I knew had it for their dog because it ate shoes constantly.

It's the first time I ever spanked the younger one and only about the 3rd time with the other one. I can't stand violence and physically hurting anyone would bother me greatly.

Okay, pseudo tough guy. I can be very tough when I need to be.

Dogs went millions of years here on Earth before we started bringing them inside.

Doghouses >> Houses for dogs

lol. Dude, I'm a scrabble champ. Another victim bit the dust Sat. night. My gf who is an English teacher. She rightly said, that we assume that all English teachers should be great spellers when in fact many of them are not.

I can't even imagine that. I really like dogs, but I like them outside the best.

It's one of those things where it will be different strokes for different folks I guess. I also don't have any kids yet, so he's still the center of my attention, aside from the wifey.

Just something cool about being loved unconditionally.

Your lucky they didn't go after your shoes. They probably roll around on your bed all day long while your gone too, and drool on your pillow. but yeah, they do things like that because they miss you. You need the DOg Whisperer

I don't know if its the hair... the drool... the smells. They just seem a little dirty to me.

Now don't get me wrong. If you are doing something outside and getting a little dirty anyway, playing with a dog is big fun. I guess I'm just a little anal about inside living conditions.

Dogs are like women.....the worse you treat them the more they love you!
Seriously though a dog that is disciplined harshly but fairly AND CONSISTENTLY will be far more loving and loyal than one that is "wuvved to deff by his mommy yes he is". And the dog will be happier....they are pack animals and desire a leader...that requires dominating them and at times being harsh with them for no good reason. I have had over 150 dogs in my life.....as many as 20 at a time when I was younger. My daughter's mom has had a few dogs that dominate the household. The first time she saw me get a new pup she was crying and saying "Daddy don't be so mean to him, he's just a baby!" That was 10 years ago. She she got a new pup 2 months ago and called me saying "I want to raise him EXACTLY like you raise your dogs, dad." I love my dogs more than some of my family but I am the boss 100% of the time and they adapt to my moods and whims. One sleeps in my bed every night....unless he chewed a good sock!

If I leave my dag in he house say for 24 hours or more she gets pissed off and tears all types of stuff up. She does this in my bedroom to let me know its me she is pissed off at.

I know why they love me then. They totally fear me, but know I will not really hurt them. Makes sense what you posted.

Your mattress is on the floor?

How in the fuck he knew that, I have no idea? I must have posted it. Someone brought over a kingsize mattress and I moved my bed into the guestroom and I'm sleeping on a kingsize mattress with no frame. This weekend, I'll be moving my gf's badass kingsize bed over here. I hope I don't want her to leave after 2 weeks or so.

You allow it to happen, bro!

Yup.

Don't hit her though. I can't stand people that hit dogs.

you dont have to hit them to get the point across. just enough to scare them or make them yelp. But then again my dad was a dog trainer and I have been helping train dogs since I was born, doesnt mean im right.

When mine gets hit, he thinks it's time to play. I've never had problems with him, but I spend a lot of time with the little fugger.

You have to spank them to teach a lesson. You know how momma dogs teach lessons? they bite them! I love animals more than most and I absolutely hate spanking them but that is how you teach them. And I do not mean abuse spank them just spank them.

They bite, not hit with a hand.

that is when you grab the back of their neck or hit em with a newspaper so it makes a loud sound. sometimes the older dogs cant be disciplined very easily, best to catch em when they are younger
